BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Tough to get a guy to commit to a coach that may not be here when he's finally eligible to play. It's the main reason the 2019 class is going to be a struggle.

This is pretty much the reason I would guess. Remember Cal picked Manning to be assistant coach last summer on the USA team. So I'm sure Cal was pumping Manning up.

I also think if you're transferring from a school like KY, spending your redshirt year at Wake that has tougher divisional requirements and classes in general probably isn't attractive if you're trying to get to the next level.

Losing out on SKJ is yet another giant red mark on Manning. He would rather take the 13th scholarship to a second year coach that has no history with big men. Meanwhile he would get playing time, big man development, and use of the new Shah basketball facilities that will be nicer than anything at State if he came here. This is another sign that Manning and staff can't recruit at the level they need to. At this point, I doubt we pull in a great 2019 class. Just hope some unicorn coach is available when Manning gets canned in 10 months.

But you don't understand. It's all about the stadium.

Yeah, if there is any recruit that Manning should have been able to convince to come play for him, it is SKJ. For starters, he recruited him back in the day, so there was already a relationship/familiarity. Secondly, it seems like Manning would be the absolute best coach for him to play for and learn from. Deserved or not, there is no denying that Manning has the rep as one of, if not the best, big man coach in the country; and he can point to Collins (another athletic 6'10" F/C) as a recent success story. Instead, SKJ chooses to play under a coach that just had his pro potential center leave the program because he felt he was being developed properly. Seems like a real dicey choice by SKJ, but an even bigger swing and miss by Manning. Unless there is some behind the scenes story that we just don't know about that made SKJ/Wake unrealistic.

Not that you guys want me on here but that's not entirely accurate. Keatts is known for his player development. And his big men are productive. Yurt improved leaps and bonds from season 1 to season 2, under the watch of Keatts. Transfer was due to style/fit issues, not player development per say.

From my POV, the connection SKJ had with transfer Blake Harris (both are Chapel Hill kids and will be sitting out next season together and are already tight) along with the questions on how long Manning will be at WF did the Deacs in here.

Which is why you fire him after last season instead of kicking the can for another year with a lame duck coach

I like Danny Manning and I wanted him to succeed but let's be real his bench coaching has been terrible. If I was a high-level recruit I wouldn't want to come here.

It’s just common sense.

You guys just totally ignore the fact that Wellman is the AD. That means there is probably an 80% chance we end up with an even worse coach. A good coach is not coming to Wake to work for a 70 year old AD that has spent the last 10 or so years completely screwing up the b-ball program. Didn't happen 8 years ago and didn't happen 4 years ago.

Any of you all who thought we had a legit shot at that kid are smoking crack. It has nothing to do with Manning and his ability/inability to recruit at this point. It has to do with him being a dead man walking and his program being a loser. Why would anybody want to come play for Wake and Manning at this point, especially a blue-chipper?

It is really painful to see Manning bumble along. Looking at Clawson and seeing what a good coach can do makes Manning even look ten times worse. I doubt we can pull another Clawson out of the bag, but there were a ton of good young coaches out there when Wellman decided to go for the big name coach who had only one good season as a head coach. Just a friggin disaster

Come on now. You can't really believe this. The nut punch predates predates Manning by several years, and that's when all the bad things started happening.

How do we reverse this mojo? I feel like we've gotten punched in the nuts a number of times by now.

20% > 0%

If Wellman hires another bad coach, we can fire the next bad coach.

People who have faith that Wellman will retire soon seem to think the new AD would be stuck with a bad new coach. It doesn’t make sense.

Chris Paul needs to win an NBA Champion with [Redacted].

As per usual as a Wake fan...you start getting a little excited only to have Lucy pull the ball away. Fucking bitch!
