Stewart was the best, there is no doubt. I watch Maher and Oliver every week, and enjoy both. All three of those shows were great for different reasons. Stewart covered news of the day, and had decent interviews. Maher gets great, and important guests, and his show is very funny. As catamount mentioned, Oliver's show does an awesome job of focusing on specific issues.
I think the far left hate of Maher because he attacks Islam a fraction of the amount he mocks Christianity is totally overblown and stupid. Let's fight the real enemy, not comedians.
Yeah, I religiously watched TDS with Stewart and the Colbert Report back to back. Now I just youtube clips of interviews I want to see on Colbert - don't watch it otherwise. I've enjoyed the 2 stand-up routines I've seen of Noah's, but he's a terrible interviewer, and I agree with dtr that his takes are overly superficial. TDS is just a bad venue for his talents. I love Oliver's show and would encourage folks to check out Jim Jefferies show on Comedy Central on Tue nights. It's almost as good as Oliver. As for Maher, I like him as a stand-up. And last night I watched his opening jokes and his interview of George Will. But I just won't watch his panel of Hollywood and cable news types because it's more superficial than Noah's takes on American politics.
