The Democratic Party Left Me Behind

Socialists should unequivocally reject this bullshit. It seeks to turn our current situation back into one that can be solved by Silicon Valley technocrats. This is why socialists are so skeptical of reforming capitalism. Peter Thiell is not your friend. Looking forward to hearing Elon Musk's ideas.

interesting - what are the concrete steps to revolutionize the world's largest and most complex economy again?

Just say, "Start Tuesday, capitalism will be illegal and the government will control all means of production for goods and services."

Interesting that in order to criticize something that is pretty clearly not socialism, and a transparent attempt to rehabilitate the billionaire class, that I have to have a neat little answer packaged for you outlining my 5 step plan for revolution.

Anyhow, I think the concerns about the rise of technology-displaced human workers is a pretty valid concern.

We're going to have to have some smart and (hopefully) cooperative capitalistic/socialistic solutions to find ways to keep folks occupied in meaningful work. And to limit further concentration of wealth. Etc.

we're all just breathlessly waiting for deliverance. so far it's just a lot of complaining

Do you have an argument here or do you just want to mock my contention that Peter Thiel's blend of hypercapitalism and hypersocialism is objectively not socialism?

Thiel, a co-founder of PayPal and early Facebook investor, donated $300,000 to Hawley’s campaign for attorney general in 2015 and 2016, a fact first noted by Bloomberg.

Thiel, who funded Hulk Hogan’s successful lawsuit against Gawker, has called Google a monopoly in the past. Hawley, a Republican who is running for U.S. Senate, launched an investigation Monday to determine whether Google has violated the state’s anti-trust and consumer protection laws.

Thiel previously donated to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott

It's all about as silly as if the Koch brothers were interviewed about "concious capitalism."

from what i can tell, nothing is socialism except the thing you can't describe

How exactly can you turn a nearly $20T capitalist economy to a purely socialist one?

When you do what happens to working people's investments? Do you let seniors cash out?

Palmer Luckey, the guy who founded Oculus, sold it to Facebook, and then used the money to fund racist, far-right meme creation in the 2016 election cycle is now running a Peter-Thiel-backed startup to build surveillance technology that could be part of Donald Trump's border wall.

Peter Thiel is the Donald Trump advisor who secretly funded the litigation campaign that destroyed Gawker, secretly bought citizenship in New Zealand, and openly says that democracy is not compatible with freedom and that giving women votes made America hostile to capitalism.

Mr. Thiel’s investment firm, Founders Fund, plans to invest in it, according to people with knowledge of its plans. They said the firm sees Mr. Luckey’s venture in the mold of Palantir Technologies, a data-mining company co-founded by Mr. Thiel, which serves a wide range of clients, including intelligence agencies. A spokeswoman for Founders Fund declined to comment.

According to The Economist, Thiel’s early political activism involved crusading against efforts to promote multiculturalism and diversity at Stanford University.

And so it’s hardly surprising that Thiel felt comfortable accepting an invitation to speak at a September 2016 conference in Turkey hosted by the ultra-right Property and Freedom Society. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, the annual confab has often featured white nationalists, including Richard Spencer, one of the stars of the Charlottesville rally. Thiel canceled this speaking gig around the time of his address to the Republican National Convention. But he did find time to attend the DeploraBall, a gathering of far-right activists and conspiracy theorists during Trump’s inauguration. In the wake of the Charlottesville catastrophe, Thiel has declined to respond to media requests for comment.

MHB still won't show how to change a $20T capitalist economy into pure socialism quickly and without costing the middle class.

I never said that it had to be done quickly or without economic hardship to the middle class.
