Bullshit Trump Says

I swear this tweet is a copy and paste from a few weeks ago.

Our President is an absolute embarrassment. And if you're a fiscal conservative and like that 4.1 number, spend another trillion dollars in the third quarter to keep it up.

So the third quarter number will come out about a week before the midterms. They must feel really good about it if they’re hyping up 4.1%.

God Trump is such a POS. How do you guys still support him? Please tell me any “fake news” that has not turned out to be true. Maybe 10%, but I would guess lower. He is decisive and dangerous.

I'm saying it's more likely a deal with Manafort or something involving the kids is going to be announced tomorrow. If it were Cohen, he'd have been mentioned.

He's going to shut down the government over his immigration tantrum a few weeks before, so he'll just make the GDP figure up anyway.

The media as “enemy of the people” bullshit shows his self absorption is pathological.

But he’s just slightly ratcheting up long standing “conservative” mythology.

When did this whole Republican anti-media mess start? I feel like it’s been around my whole life but it really got going in the 80s with talk radio.

I suspect it got going with Watergate.

Nixon had his conflicts with the media. But the national media started going increasingly to the left during Vietnam and Watergate and then kept right on drifting toward the left until by the 1980s left-liberal media dominated the national scene. Better than 85% of reporters in the national media identified selves a s dems by then. Reagan was able to navigate around it to some extent. But the drift toward the left continued. It has reached extremes during Trump.

Or maybe the media stayed the same and the right realized it was a problem so they created a conservative echo chamber so they could claim reported party corruption was just lies.

Lol

Yep, that’s about the time frame.

Yep, brainwashed folks on the right firmly believe the phenomenon is entirely due to the leftward drift of the media (along with the progressive degeneration of society/culture). They imagine themselves as the suffering stalwarts, valiantly standing for the “truth” and against all the dissipation towards chaotic change, “liberal values”, etc.

Of course there has been change. And it’s true that better educated folks, who tend to end up in the media, are often less conservative. However, this conservative narrative, never mostly accurate, has become increasingly mythologic, or false. An all too easy reflexively used tool to dismiss anything they want to oppose as “liberal” and often now completely regardless of fact or truth.

And yes, the rise of conservative talk radio and later Fox News has contributed greatly to the rise of this characteristic conservative mythology.

And now we have a freaking president openly admiring and emulating dictators who oppress the truth as “fake news” and labeling journalists as “enemies of the people”. This is incredibly alarming and a great tragedy. And mostly facilitated by lying Republicans/conservatives and the false narratives they and their complicit media have peddled too successfully for too long.

this is wrong, no maybes about it

Or, maybe you should offer some evidence for your conclusions. According to this article, media bias was the norm in the 19th century, when media outlets were formed around biased perspectives and specific issues. In the 1910s and 1920s news papers began to change their mission but conservative always felt that the media was biased left. And the rise of talk radio in the 80s is what really blew that narrative up. Btw the Niskanen Center claims to be a non-partisan, non-profit think tank.
