BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

I didn't want to do this on this thread, but who cares at this point. With 12 non-conference and 18 ACC games, I think the base case is as was posted a little earlier... 8-4 & 7-11, which gets you to 15-15 heading into the ACC Tourney.

Clearly, that isn't exciting at all.

If Manning lands a couple of Top 100 guys, I suspect it'd be enough to save his job. However, if we have a poor 2019 class AND he goes under .500 again this season... I have to think he'd be gone.

And I’m the one with zero chill. If this riles y’all up so much why do you keep engaging?

I got an A in American Lit and a B in the creative writing course you have to take as a freshman, so does that make you feel better about my qualifications you dick smoke?

You really give yourself too much credit in your ability to disturb someone's "chillness", but I'm not really surprised that you would ever give yourself too much credit. I'm not riled up, but I'm going to call you out for consistently being condescending, needlessly smug and just plain annoying in your approach to engaging in "honest debate." Who cares to the degree you do anyway? We're all demoralized by WFU BB and the sate of the program. I only come here for the purpose of expressing my thoughts somewhat creatively and to occasionally engage in some dialogue (I hesitate to use the term debate) with like-minded Wake fans. But I am certainly glad that I am not like you in the least, as I don't insult someone before then giving them a litany of questions to answer like I'm applying for welfare or something.

Blame boredom and trying to inject some variety into my work day, but you just suck the fun out of everything here. And if you haven't noticed Sherlock, there are plenty of assenting views with respect to my opinion of your "playful" trolling, devil's advocate schtick. Just calm your tits.

Agree with this. It really does seem to boil down to the 2019 class to keep this thing moving in the right direction, for lack of a better term. Not looking good at this point, but Danny may pull a rabbit out of his hat.

Right. And we could see back in March that there was no momentum for the 2019 class. That’s why many of us wanted to fire Manning to jump start our 2019 prospects.

And I this response.

And round and round we go. I’d prefer if y’all would actually respond to my posts instead of pretending like you didn’t understand what I wrote or claiming you meant something other than the clear implication of what you wrote. But these word games are fun too, so whichever is fine.

Cool. I think most of the rest of us would prefer that you weren't so condescending and self righteous in your posts, but I have no control of that so instead I'm just being snarky.

I think that statement is more opinion than fact. I don't think you can predict the outcome of a recruiting class 6-9 months before the majority of players commit. Honestly, I am surprised with the quality of visits that we are getting given how poorly last season went... Can't say I expect us to close the deal on any specific player, though.

Think I have it at 9 wins non-conf and 6 wins in-conf to get to a very uninspiring 15, too. Think the board consensus is around that number, too. Playing so many teams around 300 (or worse) at home will inflate the win total. A team ranked #150 (like Liberty and Ga Southern last year) is a lot different than a team ranked #310 like we'll be playing a lot this year. Still absolutely zero excuse to lose those games last year, obv.

What is everyone’s prediction of the first loss of the season that we just absolutely should not lose? I wonder if we had asked this question last year, would anyone have predicted the start to the season we had. Where are we at as a fan base this year?

^^^^^

This just seems like the type of year we lose at Richmond, cuz it's always a tough game in most years and lose at home to Davidson. Chalk up at least one L at the T'giving tourney and at Tenn, and it's tough to envision a scenario where we get to 10 wins non-conf. I like Ayo's "optimism" for 9 so he must think we can protect at home I'm thinking?

I would also suspect there is a correlation between the timing of recruiting news (players expressing interest, announcing visits, trimming lists) and the quality of the overall class. At this point the predictors for the 2019 class seem like a mixed bag.

I think you’ll find that I drop the act for the most part when people actually engage in the conversation. That tends to not last very long since most people get uncomfortable pretty quick when their conclusions about a topic are challenged. I get it.

Well, we did see some posters that claim some level of knowledge, I forget who, go from saying Anthony Harris was "in the bag" at the beginning of the season, to saying we were still in the running for Harris by the end of the season. It was rumors, sure, but there were some indications that our recruiting momentum had cooled.

Sure. It’s an opinion informed by following recruiting year to year. We did not have the type of buzz that precedes a strong recruiting class.

I am not confident about the Myrtle Beach trip. Depends on the draw, but I view 1-2 as likely, w/ 2-1 a good result.

I don't think we'll lose any non-conference home games, but Davidson is probably the leading candidate for a slip-up there.

In terms of recruiting... It'd be nice to get a decent Top 150ish commit in the next month or so, but I suspect we'll wait to see how the more elite visits go before moving down the list a bit. I think Manning probably understands that it behooves him to bring in a very good class this year. His leash is ever-shortening.

Is a course really required if you can place out of it?

I think that is largely because Ranger has given up on posting every single tweet even quasi-related to Wake Forest basketball recruiting.

Only partially kidding.
