GAMEDAY!!!!

Camerawork was atrocious too.

Despite Hartman's brainlock on the INT which was typical of a true freshman trying to do too much, I was far less grumpy and pessimistic about our season after watching the second half. Go Deacs.

Showing replay on the big screen in the dual screen setup while the next play was starting on the small screen was aggravating. I expected them to change that once they realized Wake was going hurry up (not sure why that wasn't discussed in pre-game prep), but if they did it was late in the game.

They're both listed at 6-1, but Hartman definitely looks taller than Wolford.

What was the postgame presser like with Clawson? Once again, I cannot find it on our site or even on Youtube. Thanks, WF sports media people (you suck Ron).

It exists on twitter. Maybe someone smarter than me can download it.

I like Sam, but he is a cocky dude (e.g. can be a little prickish at times). Think of like a JJ Reddick - one of those guys you can't stand if he is on the other team, but you love it (or at least don't mind) when he is on your team.

I used to have a buddy like that, who would say: Its not being cocky, when you back it up.

Hartman def has a little Baker Mayfield to him.

Hartman def has a little Baker Mayfield to him.

Ha, when he was head-bobbing to the music then waving at the fans this is exactly what I thought of. On the plus side, the Hard Knocks coverage of Baker actually makes him seem like a decent guy despite being cocky as hell. Can't say that bothers me much in a QB.

I know Hartman is going to get all of the hype and all that, but Sage Surratt is the realness. That dude caught everything and was always finding space. I was very impressed with him as well.

I realize it's Tulane, but Surratt looked like a legit pro prospect out there. Just absolutely bullying his defender and getting separation. I didn't follow the offseason as closely as some. Was he expected to look like that? Thought he was pretty clearly behind Dortch, Washington, and Bachman on the depth chart. He might be #2, but obviously should probably wait to see how he does against better competition.

Dortch drew all the best coverage early. I wonder how much the ejection threw off the early gameplan. Surratt’s basketball background is an obvious advantage. He really high points the ball well.

I think I heard this info (# of frosh starting QBs) mentioned somewhere on one of the pregame shows, but not during the broadcast. Though the announcers did mention Hartman's freshman status and praise his play frequently.

If one is an example, two is a coincidence and three is a trend, then true freshman quarterbacks starting in Week 1 is now simply the norm. Within the last week, we’ve seen five Power Five programs (Rutgers, Minnesota, USC, Nebraska, Wake Forest) name a true freshman its starter for Week 1.

These players range in hype and profile.

USC’s JT Daniels is a five-star who many projected to start since the moment he opted to reclassify to the 2018 class. Adrian Martinez, a four-star prospect, set the world on fire in Nebraska’s spring game and never relinquished the lead in the team’s QB battle. Art Sitkowski, a Rutgers early enrollee from IMG Academy, always seemed likely to play right away – he was as high-profile a “get” as the Scarlet Knights could’ve hoped for. Zack Annexstad, meanwhile, came to Minnesota as a walk-on and earned the starting job. There's also Sam Hartman at Wake Forest, who enrolled early and quickly impressed the Demon Deacon coaches...

During ESPN's highlights of the game on Sportscenter this morning, the only mention of Hartman was his 2nd interception. The highlights first focused on the tribute to Tulane's paralyzed former player (rightfully so) but then switched to Hartman's interception and a mention of Tulane's idiotic "Turnover Beads." And oh yeah, Wake won the game in OT. In other words, ESPN completely overlooked the real story , i.e. Hartman, one of five true frosh QBs in the country, leads his team to an OT win on the road in his first start while passing for 378 yards and throwing "dime" after "dime" to three excellent receivers.

SVP mainly just focused on how we only won by 6

Hartman gots the moxie.

Sage was great at getting separation at the line.

Without Sage Surratt we lose this game. He opened things up for Dortch. Our wide receiving corps has me

Dortch and Suratt were ridiculous and Bachman is solid. That said, a little surprised that, other than one catch by Stephen Claude, more receivers weren't in the mix. WF has always played up to 6 receivers on a constantly rotating basis, but last night, Dortch, Suratt and Bachman seemed to get almost all of the snaps (except when Dortch or Bachman got banged up).

Surratt is such a big body, I wouldn't mind putting him in the slot and using him kind of like a TE sometimes, especially once we get Washington back. I think he could crush it in the Mark Andrews role from Oklahoma.
