BBall Recruiting Thread 2k19 - Charles Coleman de-commits to Wake. :(

Yes.

I wonder if sportsnut means that he's the only one that might commit after this weekend, or if he's the only one that sportsnut thinks we have any kind of shot at? I suspect the latter, and that gives me the sads.

While I think Jackson-Davis is pretty much 100% going to Indiana (rjkarl is probably right on that), I am still holding out hope that Harris sees Wake Forest as a good fit. I don't know much about Jared Jones, but he seems like the level of player we're likely to end up with this time around. Massoud is a guy that I would still LOVE to have, and I'm not sure why we're considered such a longshot here (I guess people just assume he's staying near home and going to Rutgers).

I mean, according to 247, Jackson-Davis is 100% to Indiana, Jones is 100% to Northwestern (who we haven't offered yet from what I can tell), and Harris is 100% to Virginia Tech. Massoud sits at 60% Auburn (who just got a commitment one of 2019 prospects, 4-star SF Jaylin Williams) and 40% Rutgers.

We've been recruiting Massoud and Harris for awhile, so that's why I think our prospects look particularly bleak seeing as the signals they are sending out look far better for other programs than they do for Wake.

Christian Braun just committed to Kansas. Our 2019 prospects are looking really dismal.

Not a surprise... He was just waiting on the KU offer, right?

I feel like when his name initially came up, the sentiment around here was that he wasn't talented enough for us to waste an offer on. Doesn't matter... He was always going to KU anyway.

ETA: There were only a couple of comments... It was just that his mix tape looked pretty meh. So "sentiment" is kind of a misnomer. My bad.

I don’t think if we don’t land one of those two that it’s a for sure dud of a class. We have a lot of other prospects considering us so it’s possible to still land a couple good ones, however unlikely it is/may seem.

I don't remember such little recruiting buzz this time of year, even during the Bz years.

He never even scheduled a visit. Not really a miss...

We discussed him a fair bit as evidence of Manning's Kansas recruiting ties. He was a 3-star SG.

RJ, I'm not really concerned about whether he is a miss or not. I agree with you that it's not a miss.

My point is that our list of potential 2019 commits continues to shrink by the day. It's not like we're exclusively losing top-tier prospects, either. Over the last few weeks, we have lost recently-offered 3-star recruits to Kansas, Auburn, Harvard, Xavier, and Houston. We're also out of the running for a few of our lower priority prospects (see: MikeDeac's post above, but also Chase Hunter, Rocket Watts, etc.).

2019 doesn't look too promising, but wringing our hands over guys who never gave us a shot seems silly.

Wasn't John Collins 100% to Miami forever and then scheduled a visit to Wake and committed shortly thereafter? Conversely, that other Center prospect in that class was like 100% to Wake and then visited Miami and committed there.

Edit: 247 had Collins as 100% to Miami until he committed to Wake after visiting. I was thinking of Rodney Miller who was in the 2016 class, not 2015, and committed to Miami.

I am shocked Kansas offered Braun, totally shocked. To be truthful I was not sure we should even have offered. Are we sure it is not as a preferred walkon?

The ones that Miami got that pissed me off were Reggie Johnson and Davon reed.

We finally offered Jalen Cone, 2020 4-star PG. He's been around our program for awhile and is a local kid. While we're not looking great at PG for 2019, Cone would be a nice addition to the 2020 class.

Cone is #81 on Rivals and #79 on 247.

There is a lot of game film on YouTube. Here is a clip from last year:

sportsnut, bigboy, and occasionally Creamy have their fingers on the pulse. Plenty of folks stay on top of things on Twitter and a lot of information about relative interest in programs comes from those types of posts.

Posts like these are sometimes hard to find because certain posters feel the need to spam this thread with mind-numbingly pedantic arguments over what precise combination of variables explain Manning's coaching proficiency as a "fairly shitty" coach, instead of just a "straight up shitty" coach or a "maybe, but maybe not so shitty" coach.

There is also information out there if you are willing to compensate writers an incredibly small sum of money annually for their efforts. I'm not going to post anything that is behind a paywall on here, but that doesn't mean that there isn't anything there.

Again, tea leaves. Maybe Les has occasional direct info from the staff and some recruits and their families are more public with the process than others. But for the most part everything you just described is educated guesswork based on public information.

Which is fine. I think most people, myself included, appreciate the work you and others do to bring all the tea leaves to one place. I don’t even mind the chicken little routine people go through every time new information (good or bad) is mentioned (that routine does far more to hijack this thread than my musings). But let’s please not act like anyone’s speculation on here is based on inside information. From what I’ve heard that‘s what made the old board so miserable.
