2018 NFL Season ends: Patriots win Superbowl!

Panthers should trade Kyle Allen to the Washington DC football team for a first round draft pick.

A slug like Fournette just doesn't have much value in today's NFL. That was an incredibly dumb draft pick.

I’m not a fan of taking RBs early but the Panthers and Giants are squeezing every drop of talent from CMC and Barkley. Fournette? Not so much.

I would assume it's highly likely. Washington was effectively demoted from DC when Rivera took over playcalling.

Has there ever been a Wild Card weekend where all four road teams won? Not saying it's going to happen, but it's not implausible with these matchups.

Happened in 2016 (3 seasons ago) for the first and only time.

Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Seattle, & Green Bay all won.

I'd be in favor of changing seeding. Winning your division guarantees you a playoff spot but doesn't guarantee you a home game. More fair and would lead to fewer games in which playoff-bound teams mail it in in Week 17. Doubt it happens, though.

The tweak should be something like even if you win your division, but your WC opponent's record is at least 2 wins better than yours, the WC team gets the home game.

There are inherent problems with that in NFL. As opposed to the NBA, where the schedule is basically balanced and this could work better, the NFL's schedule is intentionally unbalanced to create parity. A 10-6 division winner could have been a better season than a 12-4 team who had a bad year last year and plays in a weak division.

like the pats getting to play three awful teams 2x a year every year for 20 years

I don’t see what is broken here. If you win your division, you host. If you don’t, you get a chance to beat a host. If you’re on the road and better, you still have a good chance to win.

The NFL playoffs are largely a crapshoot... 1 and done in a league with as much parity as the NFL in a sport like football means quite literally "anything can happen".

As long as you can get past the fact that the best team doesn't always win, there is nothing to fix. Just enjoy it.

I don't think the tweak I described would even come into play most years, but in those occasions where you have a 8 or 9 win division winner and a really strong WC team at 11 or 12 wins it's probably a little less arguable that the division winner is a better team who deserves to host. And as mentioned above the reason for something like that would be to try to have more teams actually trying to win in Week 17, not necessarily that there is anything wrong with the actual playoffs.

I wouldn't say the NFC is a crapshoot. I expect the Saints to get to the SB - I just don't see anyone beating them in the dome. And I expect Chicago to win easily this weekend. You might get a mild upset of the Seahawks over Dallas or Chicago over LAR, but that's it. But yeah, the AFC is a total crapshoot. Any team other than the Texans could represent the AFC, and I expect a lot of close games. And I wouldn't be surprised if Indy@LAC is the title game.

Crapshoot meaning the best teams don't always win (or even make) the Super Bowl. Wasn't referring to specific teams or match-ups.

Another factor here is if home field can be determined sooner, it should be easier to mobilize all the staffing for games and to get people to buy tickets.

I agree that it's largely a crapshoot, but some minor changes to playoff format (like division winners automatically getting home games) could make it slightly less of a crapshoot and reward regular season performance

I kinda agree that a wildcard team with a better record should be able to play at home. The other change that should be made is to add a 7th team and jettison 1 bye - more football and more money.
