John Wolford drafted (sort of)

Can't believe how much I enjoyed the AAF. It's like AAA minor league football with way faster games. Cool to see so many of these guys I recognize from college teams get another shot.

That was fun to watch, watching John run an offense that was similar to his time at Wake. Hope he continues to dominate the league and get another look at the NFL.

It speed was fun to watch but still a lot slower than the Wake in plays per minute. Seems like if they really want to push the tempo do what Clawson has the doing which is as soon as the play ends take the ball directly to the ref in the center of the field. That forces them to spot the ball faster. Last night they were giving the ball the the line judge who then has to toss the ball to the center. They could easily shave off 2-3 seconds per down if they want to. It still was a pretty entertaining game.

I really enjoyed it too. How long it holds my interest remains to be seen, but I'm looking forward to watching this weekend. John and the Hotshots are in the 8pm Saturday night time slot on the NFL network this weekend.

Wonder if these rules will be modified in season 2 when the OL has spent more time together.

Or do they re-draft every year OR not expect to retain players from year to year?

Players signed 3-year contracts, but they're free to sign with NFL teams if opportunity arises (which is the main goal of the league, really).

Oh yeah, duh. Well maybe with some continuity on the OL from year to year, they may allow more complex blitzes. Fine with it either way.

The nature of the league makes such continuity unlikely. NFL teams add maybe 1-3 OL a season.

I think that is one thing the league has going for it. It is really holding itself out to be a developmental league and not a competitor to the NFL. I think that might give it at least a chance of being around for awhile. I'm not sure if the XFL will even get off the ground, can't see 2 non-NFL leagues able to exist.

The NFL buy in and production values definitely help. I’m very optimistic about the future of this league. I’m not sure Wolford has NFL potential but there’s huge value in being a reliable QB who can get the ball to promising skill players and take advantage of quality OL play.

These players are setting themselves up to make well over $100K a year for about 6 months of work between the AAF and camps even if they don’t make a roster.

Patriots not true champs unless they play the AAF champs.

How will rosters be formed going forward? Will there be a draft after all of the NFL roster dust (mostly) settles?

They should just go after the bottom half of NFL rosters.

Ph is salivating at the prospect of the Joe Webb to Damiere Byrd connection.

If Wolford continues to play at a really high level, then he could get some serious looks from NFL teams. It's not like this is a strong draft class. He might be better than all the NFL QBs in the state of Florida, Nathan Peterman and the Redskins QBs with 2 legs.

I agree 100%. If John can keep this level of play up the rest of the season then I’m looking HARD at him if I’m Miami, Jacksonville, Cincy, Jets, Washington, and even Tampa. Obviously not a long term option for any of those teams but he could be a serviceable starter for them and win some games if they surround him with talent and field a decent defense.

Honestly, he’s a good option for Baltimore too. I think RGIII is under contract for one more year tho.
