Ongoing US GOP Debacle Thread: Seditious Republicans march toward authoritarianism

I thought it was pretty clear that she was referring to AIPAC lobbying and the Netanyahu government, but obviously I'm not an expert in Israeli politics. I understand where you're coming from though.

It was clear. I don't really understand where RJ is coming from because his position doesn't have much grounding in actual evidence.

yes, the original text is shown to have little value when taken out of time and context and applied to new and different situation

I am just going to repost this tweet for RJs benefit. There is no call to Jihad. She says Israel actions are evil, ie “evil doings of Israel” not that Israel is evil. RJ, you are adding so much additional content to this 7 year old 140 character tweet, I thought we should revisit the original text.

I said I took back "strike".

bird, I can't tell a black person how to feel when he/she feels slighted. You should give me the same respect about when Jews are slighted.

By the way, there is nothing about AIPAC in the tweet. It's the country of Israel not AIPAC which would have given a minute amount of cover. Thus, ALL of the posts interjecting AIPAC are being TOTALLY disingenuous and including something that wasn't there.

You mean all the people including AIPAC even though there is ZERO mention of AIPAC in her tweet?

She attacked the entire country of Israel not a lobbying group.

Fuck off with your condescension.

I don't think birdman is being disrespectful to you. He's just asking you to show your work. The article that you shared doesn't appear to substantiate the point you are making.

I think that this tweet is similar to many statements that left posters made during the Bush/Trump administrations about America and that the right posters made during the Obama administrations. I would never take those out of context to suggest that it's evidence that so-and-so hates American people. It's clearly folks railing against the nation state and its current leadership. I can imagine that there are a laundry list of grievances against the Israeli nation state if you are Palestinian or empathize with Palestinians.

See my statements below. I'll post to you what you posted to birdman. You should give me the same respect about when Jews are [not] slighted. I'm Jewish, too, man.

First, I don't care if people criticize the state of Israel; the state of Israel and its leadership do horrible things and the lobby spends billions to obfuscate that record. A state is a state is a state. When Hungary does messed up stuff, we condemn Hungary. When France does messed up stuff, we condemn France. Criticizing/attacking an entire country is not racist or anti-semitic. Nor should it be. States are entities that do a lot of great and bad things in the name of nationalism.

Second, she doesn't say anything about Jewish people or Israeli people in that tweet. She's obviously referring to the state and its leadership. What about the tweet strikes you as anti-semitic?

Again, we're just asking you to show your work.

I think we're overlooking just how devastating this type of claim (e.g., of racism, of anti-Semitism) can be. The media and a lot of people on both sides of the political aisle are throwing around a serious allegation that has absolutely no grounding in actual evidence.

I "showed" my work. I showed what her actual constituents said about her and meeting with her.

What am I thinking? The Great and Powerful Strick has spoken. I can't be right nor can my feelings or all the other people who disagree with his position be considered Strick has spoken.

GOP mad that we are calling out their racism more regularly leads to them calling Democrats anti-Semitic. And Democrats, in true Democratic fashion, capitulate.

There are two tweeting incidents. The pair of tweets from a few days ago directly refer to AIPAC. The "hypnotize" tweet is the one from seven years ago, and just refers to the state of Israel. You, at least, seem to be conflating the two incidents-in fairness, some other people might be as well.

RJ, your outraged over things that didn’t actually happened. I’m not saying she’s not anti-Semitic, she might be the worst Jew-hating person alive, but it is not evident in these tweets. What she said about AIPAC and Israel was not anti Semitic. Those people in her district know way better than me, fine. But I have a big problem with attributing comments to her like ‘she said Israel is evil!!!1!’ And she said ‘Allah should strike down Jews!!!’ In order to generate outrage.

I think that getting out raged over this makes it harder for people to accept and discern actual anti-Semitism. You are just clouding the picture and making it easier for people like Trump to say and do actual anti Jewish things.

Yeah Strick, I’ve found there to be a much larger Zionist component up here than I did in Winston but that’s from an outsider perspective.

This is true.

We were always very fortunate to have really good thoughtful rabbinical leadership. Even if the congregation more generally was pretty conservative, there always was a ton of space to question and learn. That's about all you can ask for from a congregation as far as I'm concerned and I'm fortunate to have grown up in that type of environment.

She didn't say AIPAC...

"Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel. #Gaza #Palestine #Israel"

Where is AIPAC in this?

I took back my mistake...

How is it "conflating" when I said AIPAC isn't part of it and I oppose AIPAC?

You took back one of them.

If you don’t know that this entire episode was started by two tweets relating to AIPAC you clearly don’t know what you are talking about.

It's just so disingenuous to ignore the context of the tweet.

Like you say, this whole thing is about AIPAC. AIPAC spends a lot of money buying political and ideological influence in Washington and the United States. "Money" = AIPAC.
