Possible Wake Forest Coaching Candidates Analysis

Arizona State enticed his predecessor who had much bigger name recognition than Oats. I would hope we could make as good of a pitch to Oats as ASU did to Hurley.

Yup, and while Hurley's total comp this year will be $2.8 million, his initial compensation under his first contract at Arizona State was half that.

No offense intended, but this shows you have zero pulse on what's going on around the program.

I'm not easily offended and you might be right. I hope you are. I'm as anti-DM and RW (and to a certain degree Hatch) as they come and have voiced that here and directly for a while. The powers that be just haven't shown any remorse for any decisions up to this point and I don't see that RW will rock the boat this late in the game. Our collective logic is trying to figure out what an illogical person/group will/should do. Maybe that's why I've kind of lost hope that someone with the power to burn it all down and start over will actually do it.

I made a post a couple of years ago saying Ron has 2-3 years left before retirement. I'm confident that he'll announce his retirement in 2019. I'm certain Danny won't be back next season. Bzz was given 4 years, Danny 5. Both given too much time, but I wouldn't relate us firing Bz after year 4 with giving Danny a year 6.

Take this post how you'd like, but I'm confident about it. While I've been awful at guessing how many wins we'll have each season, I have typically been pretty spot on about some other stuff. I am confident about this post. that's all I'm going to say on the matter until it plays out later this year.
lol

Everything I have heard from people that know a heck of a lot more than me is that Manning is going to be fired at the end of the season. I don't think that qualifies as scoop, but I would be absolutely shocked if he's back to coach next season. As stubborn as you all seem to think those w/ a say on such things are (and you are probably right), Manning's on court results have become too big of a train wreck to ignore.

I haven't heard anything that makes me confident that Wellman will be gone soon, though. But I don't think the next coach will be 100% his decision, either.

How did he double his total compensation within 4 years with only a First Four appearance?

Was Wellman the one who hired Clawson? I seem to remember someone saying that there was a special group who picked him.

With his contract extension they moved his base salary up 700k and gave him a 700k signing bonus. He also gets an extra 100K on his salary every additional year at ASU.

Manning will be gone next year. We have a lifeless fucking area, are bleeding money because of it, there is zero enthusiasm around the program, and we may get to 11 wins. Despite what it may seem on the surface, the biggest donors see the trainwreck that is our flagship program. Changes are coming.

I'm not arguing that DM won't be fired. But this is how I would have described things for most of the last decade. Just wondering what the magic line is for donors/decision makers. I would have also added laughingstock or joke as part of your description.

Guess it's good to know Wake isn't the only one who gives extensions based on nominal results in the 3rd year. At least he's giving them decent results.

Just wanted to add that I have my finger firmly on the pulse of what is going on in and around the Wake Forest basketball program.

And trust me, I'm careful not to use my thumb, because that has a pulse of its own (which could be confusing). Especially because the Wake Forest pulse is so weak at this point.

Creamy's right.

Just showed a graphic on ESPN that Collins had the third highest efficiency rating since '09-10 per their metrics, behind only Zion and Olynyk in '12-13.

This is what it took to take dolt Danny barely to the dance. Manning should be jailed for failing to earn Collins the recognition (and draft positioning) that season deserved

Be careful. You'll offend those who were just happy that we were "ahead of (their own made up) schedule" in Y3.

If Wellman is leaving at the end of 2019, will the Board allow him to make our next basketball hire?

Oh heavens yes! Say it'll happen!!!! Ideal world, get rid of Wellman, bring in a new AD and then make the coaching change... Win Win

Exactly. What precedence has been set over the last ten years for this to happen? People are forgetting that RW fought tooth and nail to keep Bzzz after it was clear he was a terrible hire. I'd argue Bzzz showed more promise over his four years than Danny has in five years, and given RW's judgment so far...all bets are off regarding the timing of DM's dismissal and RW's retirement, IMHO. I think it's complete bullshit that someone here has the inside track on what's actually going to happen.
