But if it's a legal thing, why are we the only ones that seem to do it?
Because Wake - in its current form - is private in every sense of the word. “We” doesn’t really apply

The resignation instead of firing is legal business that impacts future obligations of both parties.
The "shocked" part is puzzling, considering the extremely high likelihood the resignation was requested.
I love Ron is trying to spin things like he is still in power. Who would let a 70-something, soon to be retired employee with replacement already named, who just torpedoed his most important job responsibility, retain authority and power over those decisions for his final 50 days of employment?
March 12, by 3:30pm. "Following its loss to Miami in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, Wake Forest and Danny Manning will part ways, sources say."
UCLA fired Steve Alford back in December, after it was obvious he was not suited for the job, because UCLA -- unlike Wake under Hatch and Wellman -- is serious about demanding a nationally prominent basketball program. That might have been a little quick on the trigger, but there is absolutely no excuse for extending the decision to release Manning beyond Wake's next loss, which will end the season.
More importantly, Currie should already have been working full-time to land the next coach without interference from Wellman, who has no credibility on hiring basketball coaches and is headed for retirement. If Wellman wants to stand up at the press conference and pretend for his own ego that its his hire as he heads into retirement, fine, as long as Hatch has made it absolutely clear to both Wellman and Currie privately that it's Currie's decision and it's Currie who will be held responsible. This is just business management 101 (I know, this is Wake we're talking about).
So the new coach should be announced within 48 hours of Manning's release. The only caveat to this timeline would be that the next Wake coach is currently coaching a team in the NCAA tournament and wants to finish the season with his kids, which would be admirable and easily accommodated. Otherwise, this coaching change should happen this week.

I think Currie gives him a shot in 2019-2020 and Manning actually turns it around enough to get a shot again in 2020-2021. We have another terrible season in 2020-2021 (similar to this year) and Danny finally gets the axe in March 2021. One of our own local Wake reporters breaks the news.
:bowrofl:
There won't be anyone left to break the news to.I think Currie gives him a shot in 2019-2020 and Manning actually turns it around enough to get a shot again in 2020-2021. At this point, IMO that is just as possible as firing him shortly. For sure the team supports him, they were at the big announcement, and nearly beat DUke most likely for their coach.
It leaks on Sunday March 17 with the presser the next day
