Guess the date/time of Manning’s firing/resignation

The resignation instead of firing is legal business that impacts future obligations of both parties.

The "shocked" part is puzzling, considering the extremely high likelihood the resignation was requested.

This is true. Ron Wellman, however, goes far beyond what is necessary for his lies. In a press conference, Codpiece Ron said [Redacted] offered up his resignation before they could even discuss his future with the team. Flatly denying it was a resign or be fired situation. One of many many lies by Ron. That’s his legacy. A liar.

I love Ron is trying to spin things like he is still in power. Who would let a 70-something, soon to be retired employee with replacement already named, who just torpedoed his most important job responsibility, retain authority and power over those decisions for his final 50 days of employment?

March 12, by 3:30pm. "Following its loss to Miami in the opening round of the ACC Tournament, Wake Forest and Danny Manning will part ways, sources say."

This is Wake Forest, remember?

UCLA fired Steve Alford back in December, after it was obvious he was not suited for the job, because UCLA -- unlike Wake under Hatch and Wellman -- is serious about demanding a nationally prominent basketball program. That might have been a little quick on the trigger, but there is absolutely no excuse for extending the decision to release Manning beyond Wake's next loss, which will end the season.

More importantly, Currie should already have been working full-time to land the next coach without interference from Wellman, who has no credibility on hiring basketball coaches and is headed for retirement. If Wellman wants to stand up at the press conference and pretend for his own ego that its his hire as he heads into retirement, fine, as long as Hatch has made it absolutely clear to both Wellman and Currie privately that it's Currie's decision and it's Currie who will be held responsible. This is just business management 101 (I know, this is Wake we're talking about).

So the new coach should be announced within 48 hours of Manning's release. The only caveat to this timeline would be that the next Wake coach is currently coaching a team in the NCAA tournament and wants to finish the season with his kids, which would be admirable and easily accommodated. Otherwise, this coaching change should happen this week.

Most of the coaches that I would be happy with as Wake's next coach should be busy coaching meaningful games at their current school at least through March 23 or 24. So no big need to rush on creating s vacancy at Wake.

The only exception to this is the one guy who is not currently coaching - Thad Matta.

Logical except that May 1 ruins it.

The perfect time IMO would be about five minutes before the first game of Thursday's ACC tournament games.

I think Currie gives him a shot in 2019-2020 and Manning actually turns it around enough to get a shot again in 2020-2021. We have another terrible season in 2020-2021 (similar to this year) and Danny finally gets the axe in March 2021. One of our own local Wake reporters breaks the news.

Here is the deal, fans and ordinary alumni.... With the below, we know what "private" really means.. Most of us can enjoy the show, but have little to do with the production.

"The money each school gets from television contracts is the primary source of funding for coaches' contracts, practice facilities, lazy rivers, barbershops, arena renovations, stadium upgrades and every other weapon in the college-athletics arms race. There are other factors involved in what makes a school or a team competitive in any given sport, but conference payouts are the foundation – what makes the Power 5 the Power 5.

...but the ACC is counting on network revenue – which even in its least optimistic projections should be at least $10 million per school per year, once the network is up and running – to move it past the Pac-12 and even with the Big 12.

:rolleyes::bowrofl:

Sunday March 17. Dear old Wake Forest will allow all the good press from the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament to finish and then drop the boom on Sunday afternoon with a statement from Mr Manning himself that he is leaving for the NBA.

There won't be anyone left to break the news to.

At this point, IMO that is just as possible as firing him shortly. For sure the team supports him, they were at the big announcement, and nearly beat DUke most likely for their coach.

They nearly beat duke because duke is garbage without Zion.
