The Pit Parenting Thread

Sorry for your loss.

My grandmother died right after our daughter was born. She was 5 days old at the funeral. There was something cathartic having new life at a funeral. It really helped my dad through the day.

Our boy is 6 1/2. He's upset about his dog but he has really only showed much interest in the last year so. i think some of his sadness is the sadness of the rest of us that he is picking up on.

That’s rough.

My son apparently has croup and according to the doctor it’s either going to get better or get worse or we may have to take him to the emergency room.

Seems like I’m paying a lot of money for a lot the missed days of daycare because he got sick at daycare.

Daycare sucks. We have one in a place with new ownership. They have closed due to weather a lot. Our county opens late and closes way to much. They almost always follow the county now. Thats when i need you the most daycare. When school is out. He does not know it yet but he's switching to the place his sister goes when school ends.

Hope he's better soon! My daughter had croup twice (literally the same weekend one year apart) and had to be hospitalized overnight both times after some treatments in the ER that didn't fully help. It's rough and you feel so bad for them.

oh dear. my daughter had it twice and we were given a nebulizer to do steroids. that seemed to knock it down in a few days

Holy shit. The baby just fell down and passed out while crying. Apparently that is a pretty commonplace thing called breath holding, and she may do that until she's 7 or 8. For her first episode though, that was freaking terrifying.

We pay by the week so we have to pay for the whole week if baby MDMH only goes 1 day.

Just read up on the breath holding, and it sounds terrifying. Hopefully she will grow out of it sooner, I can't imagine going through that for 6-7 years.

It happened to my nephew, but only once. Another kid at my son's daycare did it. The kid already had severe allergies, so was even scarier. But as far as I know, it only happened once or twice. Hopefully in your case, it's an isolated thing.

It's hereditary apparently, so, much like her temper, she inherited it from my wife who used to do the same thing at her age. Literally can't remember being more scared in my life though.

Does your wife have any memory of it happening to her? I'd think if you were 6 or 7 and they were still happening there would be some memory of it, which is also terrifying.

my ex in college used to wake me up b/c i would hold my breath while i was sleeping and it freaked her out

Luckily our daughter is too young to realize death. We suddenly lost my aunt last month, who S loved and adored. Luckily she's not mentioned anything about my aunt, but sadly will most likely not have any memories of her.

After the umpteenth ear infection, we've finally been referred to an ENT for tubes. I'm not looking forward to her being put to sleep for the surgery, but am looking forward to her feeling better and getting a true sense of her personality. She's been feeling so bad and fussy for so long, and I'm sure the ears played a big part of it.

We had tubes done about a year ago for one of the girls, and while it was a very quick procedure (like 15 minutes from wheeling back to seeing her), I understand the stress. It will alll be worth it though.

do your daycares provide lunch?

Breakfast, lunch, and snacks*

*Parents are asked to bring snacks on a rotating basis - ends up being once or twice a month usually and some teachers will take a snack day or two during the month.
