Guess the date/time of Manning’s firing/resignation

I believe all of those tournament games from 1995 are in the ACC "vault" on the ACC website. I watched them all a few years ago. We were really up against the ropes in that Duke game in the first round. Love the story associated with it where Chill said in the huddle while Wake was down 18 or so in the first half that if the other guys didn't want to win then just get out of the way and give him the ball so he could win it. And...he did.

We were down 31-13 in the first half. I remember being completely pissed off- it seemed like we were going to lose to the #9 seed. During a time out, Childress told his teammates "Give me the ball. Every damn time." We actually took the lead before halftime. It was over then.

I was so pissed during the first half that I left my seat in the Wake section at the Coliseum and took a lap around the concourse to cool down.

If memory serves, some talking head predicted Wake would lose the first round game and lo and behold it appeared it was going to happen.

The Carolina-Maryland game on semifinal Saturday was a classic as well.

Actually the 'Give me the ball, Every damn time' was heard on ESPN during the OT of the championship game, after we tossed it away on offense one trip.

On the dook game, during the TO when we were down that big I actually went into the basement and smashed a wooden chair against the wall. That seems to work as our comeback started immediately after that.

At this point, I believe he is coming back for another year.

Understand the sentiment, but if WF had made a decision that DM was coming back, think that the school would've announced that. It was obvious from the ACC Tourney press conference that speculation is swirling about a coaching change. A simple press release stating that Manning is returning would end the speculation. Anything is possible at this point, but the fact that a formal move has not been announced does not mean that there will be no change. If there is no announcement by the time the NCAA games start next Thursday, then there would be a stronger inference that DM is returning.

I blew my chances with a girl who was a UNC grad when I told her that Rasheed Wallace was a whiny bitch when he got injured in the ACC tourney game. She didn't like that, and I don't think I ever saw her again. Oh well...

Well, DM is under contract, a long contract at that, why would they have to make any announcement that he is staying. Since, hopefully, they are not working on another extension for him, technically there is no need to confirm he'll be back.

Yeah but they can leak it to the press who can tweet it out. I’m sure Ron would like attend the rest of the ACCT and the NCCAT without constantly being asked the same question when a decision to retain DM has been made.

Unless of course he would rather deal with this question than the “Why the fuck are you retaining this clown?” question.

People here assign a lot arrogance to Ron, I'd say two weeks from now he's answer the questions by saying, 'Why would I announce he's staying he's under a contract'.

And I’d say that response is more arrogant than effectively managing the press.

This is literally a situation where we can’t afford NOT to fire Manning. Even the most diehard fans have been alienated at this stage and you’d saddle a new AD with an impossible situation. Good luck to Currie trying to raise money or get the fanbase excited with that shadow looming over him.

Exactly

It's still Tuesday at 1:30.

I'm going with this

Wellman has never demonstrated much overt concern about what the fans think. If we are keeping DM (shudder), I don’t think Wellman would feel compelled to announce that just to quell speculation, rumors, etc. He feels safe in his ivory tower.

I am clinging to the fact that Wellman’s retirement was forced because he created such a dumpster fire of a BB program, the powers that be are unhappy, and that changes are on the way — including a new coach.

Understood, except Wellman did just this in 2012 and 2013 when he didn't can [Redacted], who was also under contract. From March 2013:

After a season of protests, a radio show fiasco, brutal public relations, a highly active Internet campaign, thousands of dollars in local media ad buys and more earnestly written email than my inbox has seen since *I* was in college, Wake fans didn't get what they wanted from athletic director Ron Wellman Tuesday -- which was, to put it bluntly, third-year coach Jeff [Redacted]'s job. Instead, Wellman reaffirmed his support for his old friend, telling the Winston Salem-Journal [Redacted] has "laid the foundation that we think is important for future success."

Probably saved some money on antibiotics for your dong tbh...
