The Jaylen Hoard era at Wake Forest was very meh.
Our first "one and done" player.
A terrible season for the team... A solid, if not spectacular, season for Hoard. Leaves early, doesn't get drafted... I have no idea how to feel.
Looks bad for Manning in that he:
*Couldn't have more success w/ a "one and done" level player
*Wasn't able to showcase Hoard's skills (nor improve upon them) enough to get him drafted
*Made it even easier to recruit against him... "XXX came here, won some games, and got drafted... Hoard went to Wake, had a shitty season, and slipped out of the draft."
In terms of how I feel about Hoard? I wish him success, but I can't say I'm excited to follow his pro career. If he has a good one, it is even more depressing in terms of how we got nothing out of him at Wake Forest. If he has no real pro career, then the narrative (around here, at least) is either that Manning stunted his development or he wasn't that great to begin with. None of these scenarios makes me feel very good.
