lol believe me I don't actually miss jh's schtick with his one super-original point that kids should come from two parent households that somehow managed to worm its way into bkf's brain and turn him conservative with its superior logic

i can get decent conservative thought from friends and family, but they're all pretty holed up in "i don't want to talk politics" these days, which is where I suspect most people on here are too

hence all the dem infighting

This is true.

I’d like to hear from conservatives as well, but maybe Ph is right, those days might be gone.

For conservatives to engage in political discussion, they would have to do one of the following:

1. Be unabashed pro-Trump and risk being called out for supporting his not conservative policies. Most conservatives nationally have chosen this route but not on the boards.

2. Challenge Trump but risk agreeing with Democrats. NewEngland and a few others do this.

3. Rarely participate in discussion but pop in whenever Trump does something they like or Democrats majorly screw up. They disappear when challenged with Trump and GOP hypocrisy and corruption. DG and Junebug come to mind here. Catamount does this and #2.

4. Troll. Angus and the like.

LOL - Why would any conservative engage you clowns in serious debate when every position that doesn't align with the echo chamber over here is branded as racist, evil, stupid, xenophobic, or misogynist?

Oh... and anyone who dares to disagree with the almighty Left is a Nazi white supremacist.

Definitely sounds like an environment to foster healthy debate... I'm shocked more conservatives aren't falling over themselves to be a part of the The Tunnels Left echo chamber!

maybe start by not defending racist, evil, stupid, xenophobic or misogynist ideas

Dear Victim,

Make a conservative argument that isn’t racist or stupid or xenophobic and you will get a reasonable debate. I’ve been on these boards for years and we used to have it. The problem is that in its current state, American conservatism is bereft of any arguments that fit this bill. You’ve followed conservative policy setters into extreme positions that are indefensible.

A good place to start would be environmental conservatism. Take a stab at it and stop crying like a baby about this board

What a cowardly and Trumpian post.

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH....

So what you are saying is that the GOP is currently indefensible without invoking or defending racist, misogynist, stupid etc. ideas. Build a better party/political philosophy and you are good to go.

Brad, he wasn't talking about you. You are not a conservative.

This is mostly accurate.

Although for the record, I have zero problems agreeing with Democrats these days. I may disagree on policy here and there but there is only one party who respects the rule of law and has shown some interest in protecting the constitution (hint: not the GOP). So I have been pretty outspoken about voting for and even campaigning for democrats in today’s sad political climate.

The current GOP is not a party of conservatism so by lumping all conservatives into the GOP and lambasting that group whole hog, there isn’t much motivation for actual conservatives to engage in meaningful dialogue.

Translation: the last time I attempted this I demonstrated that I didn't even have a basic understanding of statistics. After being ridiculed, I determined that this wasn't my best course of action on this board.

Choice 1 selected

Yeah, and it's not just the members of congress who are terrified about being primaried. Most of the conservative punditry has come around to backing Trump. The only notable exceptions I can name are Will, Brooks, Frum and Gerson. Hell, I know a lot more folks personally who are never Trumper Pubs than members of congress and pundits combined.

This is the correct take. I’ve been on these boards a while too, and the old boards, and there was solid conservative thought. They all left when Trump was gearing up to be the nominee.

Angus, throw out a current conservative policy that you think is right that the Dems have wrong and let’s debate. Not a difficult exercise.

Man, the whole victim mentality Angus and Catamount display is totally disingenuous. It’s a cover because they can’t defend the GOP they historically align with in its current state so instead they deflect with the lazy “woe is me” defense. Transparent.

The closest Angus has come to criticizing the GOP on this board is him saying he doesn’t support trump (lol yea right). Whereas lots of Dem posters here are able to criticize their party. Weird shit.

#1, please. Donald Trump is nearly my ideal president policy wise. I only wish he was much more ok with killing babies.

You keep saying that, calling yourself conservative, rattling off a bunch of conservative policy points, and then shown they don’t align with anything trump has done.

It’s not?
