I started doing much of the grocery shopping the second I got my license. My mom would give me a signed check to pay for it.

J/K. We have a maid every other week and do our own yardwork. Son cuts the grass and I do most of the rest. I'm definitely getting a yardman once my son gets out of high school in several years from now.

I broke down and hired a monthly cleaning service a few months back

Our house cleaner is some of the absolute best money we spend each month. We will probably never stop. We keep our house tidy, they come every two weeks and clean it top to bottom. So satisfying.

Same, we are generally pretty clean people so we can go a while in between cleanings but after a month stuff tends to build up. Plus we are terribly slow and inefficient at cleaning and have enough other chores to do so we got a sweet deal with a lady that comes in like once a month. Worth it.

My young kids can do minor stuff from that article like clean up toys and pick out their outfits for the day. No way I’m asking them to pull weeds, how can I trust them to get out the full root?

yeah, hire a maid and a yard guy to do the heavy lifting. our moms and dads had more time for that shit

I had that exact same thought.

I remember my wife was trying to get me to let my daughters help me pull weeds... I gave it a shot and they were just straight up pulling out grass and plants and whatever else they felt like pulling. And then they just ditched me because it wasn't fun. I think they went to just dig holes in the lawn somewhere else.

Kids are assholes.

great thing about buying a small condo in a city is....doesn't take long to clean it and no yard!

roomba is a help but it's a losing battle having a dog in the house

i suspect having a kid will only triple the mess

in the meantime, i'm sure my wife would say otherwise but cleaning is not so bad

i just do all the cooking and most of the dishes/kitchen cleaning, and she cleans the rest of the place and does laundry

thanks for your input on maintaining your 300' box

yr mom doesn't take that much maintenance tbh, just have to hang around after

No yard? But where do you have your smoker and garden?

we do have a shared side yard and i have a front porch and back balcony

no proper garden tho, on a waitlist for community garden next summer

My 4 year old pulling weeds is a terrifying thought. The idea of loss of all my landscaping plus the crippling case of poison oak that she would inevitably contract. Yikes.

my 3yo can sort of clean things and helps put stuff away and can . so far, i can say that kids do like to help; she asks if she can pitch in no matter what i'm doing so harness that energy, even if they're not very good at it. i'll often let her cut up soft fruits like strawberries and watermelon into smaller pieces with kid-safe knives

Curious Chef makes the knives, if anyone was curious:

Most would say four is too young to pull your weed for you...
