FSU Game Time - 7:30 ACCN

That’s something I can’t understand. Why do people leave games early? Especially if it’s just a financial commitment to come in the first place.

I don’t really blame someone who left a field goal fest at halftime when it was cold and raining buckets.

If someone is a casual fan, they are coming to the game for entertainment. If they aren’t entertained and if the weather sucks, then why wouldn’t they leave?

The downside of TV is the 7:30 games last foreeeeeever.

If they aren't entertained? A 2 point game at halftime isn't entertaining? I mean yes the weather sucked in the 2nd half, but the game was entertaining.

For those complaining about parking try going to a State game or UNC. You will be walking forever to get to the stadium.

Anybody complaining about our parking evidently hasn't been to many away games. I do think $20 to park in the Joel lot is ridiculous, but as far as being able to park close to the stadium and abundance of spaces, we are so much better than most places.

I totally get why people would leave that game at halftime given the weather, but it’s not just that game that people leave early. People leave early against unc and Utah State. I don’t understand it.

this has been a weird season with most home games night games, and two of them on Friday

Because they’re night games and many people either have kids who need to get to bed or they’re driving in from hours away and don’t want to drive too late. There just aren’t many people who live more than an hour away who can come early and tailgate for a few hours, watch the whole game, and stick around and wait for the traffic to die down.

I had to get a hotel in Danville, VA because all in area were either sold out or ridiculously expensive. I left just before start of 3rd quarter because the rain was hard and predicted to be worse, the play calling was ultra conservative, it was already 9:15 and I had an hour and a half drive just to get back to the hotel.

Yeah, I left the Louisville game early because 1) we were down 21, 2) I live 1.5 hrs away and 3) I had to take care of two kids under 4 by myself the next day because my wife was working, so getting home at 2 AM wasn’t an option.

I'm amazed at how many casual G'boro spectators complain about coming to events in W-S including WF Football because of routing in and out of the games and events. Yet, it is okay to be stuck in traffic for an hour and a half to go to State and Carolina games from G'boro. Okay. There. I said it. So now all the true blue WF fans from Gboro can jump on this post. I'm not talking about you! It's the casual fan from the neighbor to the east. And it is uncanny to me. This is not a recent phenomenon due to new Salem Parkway construction, either.

The only time I've ever had any real issues was during games while the fair was going on.

Can anyone answer if we are filling up the Joel lot on game days? If it’s empty, then that’s a problem. My hunch is that it’s full more often than not.

I don’t think we have very good fans in general. I think we have some really passionate fans, but for the reasons outlined above (small school, not local alumni base, etc.) we don’t have enough to overcome that a majority of Wake alums just don’t really care about sports. We bitch about the student section every year. Who do you think makes up the alumni base? The same students that we complain about.

I would add that the biggest barrier to the local community being wake fans isn’t the cost of tickets which are at worst comparable to our peers. It’s the cost of tuition and the elitism perceived about Wake. It’s an expensive private school with a student body from all over the country literally gated off of Winston-Salem. The students get the hell out of town almost immediately. How many alums on this board alone live within an hour of campus?

It’s pretty easy to point the finger at Wellman, [Redacted], or Manning for why we have a bad fanbase, but my hunch is that those problems existed before all those folks. Have we ever consistently filled BB&T Field?

My wife is from Mt. Airy. I'm from Raleigh, where we live now and do a lot of work in eastern NC. Based on the amount of Dook gear I see in those places, winning takes care of the elitism. Not disagreeing with you at all, I've just seen a lot of blue shirts worn by people who have never come close to attending any college.

That’s what I’m saying. Win and nothing else matters.

Then like why come to the game? I’m legitimately curious.

I mean, I made it to halfway through the fourth quarter, so I saw most of the game. I also spent a lot of time tailgating with my good friends. It was still worth going for both those reasons. But the extra hour plus of sleep I got from leaving early made a big difference the next day.

My superhero skill is finding a free place to park at football games. I found one for the Louisville game right across from putters and I’ve been to almost every SEC stadium and haven’t paid yet. The only time I pay for parking is the rare occasion my wife comes with me and she freaks out if I don’t pay 20 bucks to park in a big lot.

10 days ago, I was at Iowa-PSU. Late night, no rain. And I'm still fighting a cold. BB-T will be filled for a noon start on a clear day. Nobody walks-up on a rainy night when they can have a couch on the 50, (sound off when Hasselback is in the booth).
