NC State Game Time - Noon ESPN

We really should convert the rest of the bench seats to chair backs and cut out ~5K of capacity.

Why? So our fball stadium can be donaldross size? Bring a seat cushion and enjoy the best team in the state at the most convenient bargain in the ACC.

Some dude on Facebook posted Washington has a dreaded high ankle sprain. As tight lipped as Clawson is on injuries I wonder if this dude is just wanted to make like he’s in the know?

Scotty is definitely a Key player but 2 other damn good ones at that position with lots of depth including some touted frosh.. beat the hokies

wfu22fan faps furiously !

The scourge worsens for State and the demon Deacon affliction strikes State again with deadly effect. Wake can relish beating a rival, according to their local beat reporter, that is so good they wouldn’t recruit our players who carry a grudge. (tongue in cheek)

Casual ACC fans near WF constitute those empty seats, game time tailgaters and late arrivals. It takes consistent winning to turn these “fans” into the dedicated variety. Walk into a roadside convenience store and count the WF merchandise compared to all others IF you can even find WF items for sale. It’s a numbers game and WF has only one print media regularly covering them.

Our reluctant rivals definitely will encourage a coaching departure along with their hopes of keeping WF down. WF can avoid such an outcome if WF fully commits to football.

Wake has fully committed to football. Listen to the announcers every week gush over our facilities.

Unfortunately, it is not correct that the late arrivals and game time tailgaters are casual fans. I know alumni and fans that have been attending games for years that do this.

If Clawson leaves, it would not be because he wasn’t paid enough, staff wasn’t paid enough, or Wake wasn’t committed to football. It would be because of a lack of community support for a consistently winning program. Listen to the comments - they’re out there. We have enough fans to consistently fill Groves at kickoff. We just need to do it.

With all that said, this game was a step in the right direction, but we can do better. Also, we are doing way better than Duke.

It has nothing to do with the quality of the chair. It's about reducing the density a little bit to spread out the crowd. UNC just did this apparently, but they reduced capacity significantly, and from what I've heard it's worked out great.

The reality of the game was on one of Jamie's touchdown runs. The Wake O-line just slow walked the State D three yards into the endzone with Jamie somewhere in there until he popped out at the end.

Will see about the level of commitment when pay for Clawson & Co. is up for reconsideration after a great season.
My experience with alumni is starkly different than yours. The folks I know take their seats on time and stay to the end.
There are only so many alumni to go around. WF depends on the support of non-alums in a huge way and they have to be appreciated greatly to achieve sell outs even in great years.

I think that was his point. Their game plan was to stay away fro Bassey and pick on Amari and Amari responded with probably his best game ever.

Yes. That’s what I meant. Thanks.

What is the purpose of the Orange Bowl sending reps to an ACC school if the Orange Bowl will have zero choice determining which ACC school to select?

Good point. As a bowl rep with an ACC tie in (Military Bowl) I can go to any ACC game and wear my bowl gear. My doing so would have zero indication of what team my bowl plans to pick/could pick.

I don’t know how the Orange Bowl handles this. It could be that they are more intentional about sending reps to games and, if so, then perhaps it would be to drum up interest from a team (and fans) that could be selected. It seems to have at least served this purpose.

The other reason would be because there is so much horse trading on the final weekend that it helps to have folks in the room with relevant info to help facilitate the discussion. Since I’ve been involved in this process I’ve been pleasantly surprised that Wake has seemed to come out ahead on the final weekend. I would have expected the opposite.

Go Deacs!

Son of Orange Bowl Committee chair is a freshman and was here for parent weekend according to WSJ

I thought we had a pretty good crowd of Wake fans today. Agree it seemed there were fewer State fans than most years.

The night games and bad weather (FSU) this year haven’t helped.

If we keep winning, the local/regional crowd will grow. It takes more time and consistency to pick up bandwagon fans.

It’s always curious to me how so many fans are slowish to get to their seats, filtering in from tailgating. Makes sense to me to get there earlier and leave the parking lot earlier. For some reason(s) many folks who make the effort and spend the money to attend just don’t care about being present for the start. Been this way for a long time. Still better to have them come than not.

So were the tickets too expensive yesterday or was that just for the FSU game ?

A buddy came by our tailgate looking for an extra to get his kid into the game. Said the only tickets left at the box office were $75+

That was Jamie’s second td run. It looked more like a rugby scrum. I’m a little surprised the refs didn’t blow the play dead before he scored, but I guess they saw the pile was continuing to move. I’m sure the Oline will get a lot of cheers when this play is reviewed during team meetings

Clawson is going to leave because fans don’t get there for kickoff is approaching hall of fame level density.

It is also difficult to quantify the collateral damage that Wellman/[Redacted]/Manning have done to the entire athletic department. When I get a call or email from the Deacon Club or a ticket rep and my first and only reaction is to tell them to go fuck themselves, I'm not going to suddenly reverse course and go back to that person or department for football tickets. I have season tickets for the Hornets, and through work we have a suite for the Panthers and suites at Keenan and Carter-Finley. There is absolutely no reason I/we should not have a whole bunch of tickets at Groves. Except that Ron Wellman can eat a dick.

No, it's not. Clawson is a very driven guy and after this season (barring a collapse down the stretch) will be able to coach pretty much anywhere he wants. He and his staff are not going to keep busting their asses to build a winner here if nobody shows up to watch.

I live in the Midwest so it's just not possible for me to attend games on even a semi-regular basis. But no matter where I am, home or traveling, I catch at least part of every game on TV or radio. I am a little baffled by the small crowds this year. In 2006 this was not a problem. Something has changed since then. I am inclined to believe that 2&2 is correct--there is so much ill will toward the basketball situation, and for Wellman's abominable handling of that, that a lot of fans have permanently tuned out.
