Have you been paying attention to the last decade of Men's Basketball?

He had to fire Dino at the time. No choice.

I don’t disagree with anything you said in the 2nd paragraph. It’s got to be very frustrating for Brandon. Doesn’t help that his dad is one of the greatest Deacs ever, and is right there on the bench.

Let's get that whisper campaign restarted. What will we go with? Banging coeds? Insubordination? Winning to much in a non Wake Forest way?

Okay then. Yes, I have been paying attention to the last 10 years of basketball. I cannot say that it has been as enjoyable as the Rodney Rogers, Tim Duncan/Randolph Childress, and Chris Paul years. Unfortunately, that’s what happens when we over a cliff like we did right before Jeff [Redacted] came in. Years of rebuilding. That’s all this past decade has been unfortunately, which is definitely far too long. It’s starting to become apparent that Danny Manning is not quite the right fit for trying to build and maintain a strong team from scratch in the competitive ACC. It’s something I believe the AD might have to address at the end of the season.

That’s my observations from paying attention over past 10 years.

Digging a giant hole in the ground is not the same as building a foundation. I would not allow Danny Manning to coach a rec league team at any level.

Dino was one of the better Coaches that Wake has ever had. The reason he was fired was because he didn't bend the knee to kiss Wellman's ring and had the courage to stand up to Wellman and call Wellman out on his BS. Wellman subsequent hiring of Jeff B. and Danning M. only further prove how right Dino was about Wellman.

Now there isn't really a Wake basketball fan base anymore. The former fans don't even know who plays for Wake and the former fans don't watch or support the team. A decade of irrelevance and incompetence will do that. The difference is most Power 5 programs would not be so reluctant to make a coaching change. Wake also never should have extended Manning's contract. The timing of the extension was mind numbing. Wake has an awful start to the season that should have given enough reason for a competent AD to pause any contract extensions and further evaluate the Coach.

The season we made the NCAA “first round” seemed good at the time, only because of what we’d endured the previous 5 years, but that season wasn’t that good. As I stated, a 10th place finish in the league, barely making the expanded NCAA tournament did not warrant an extension like that.

So true! I'm 73. I started watching (listening to) Wake basketball when I was about 10. I could name all the players. My father (a State fan) would take me to the Dixie Classic and the ACC Tournament. Now I don't give a damn. Thanks Wellman.

I figured that the contract extension was signed in the offseason and that Wellman wanted to release the news at some good PR time and then realized once we had fallen off a cliff that he better get it out there as soon as possible.

Still doesn't make signing Manning to a long term guaranteed contract at that time made ANY sense.

It MAY have been necessary, for recruiting, to extend Manning. There is no way his buyout should be one of the biggest in all of P5 sports.

To the new poster. We have already deliberated and adjudicated this stuff ad nauseum. I personally was hoping for a year where we could really rip on Manning and Wellman without constantly having to defend why. Guess that was too much to ask. Assuming you’re not a parody, have at it. But if you are able to be reasonable and admit when your positions are irrational and then just leave it alone, boy that would be just dandy.

Either way it’s going to be a long season and this inanity just makes it longer.

That AD brought us light years from where we were when I was at Wake. Facilities, expansions, donations, the football success of mid 00’s, and the basketball success of the 90’s all under Mr Wellman. I get it. The last few years of basketball haven’t been exactly stellar in comparison, but you can’t forget all of the other things as well.

Mr Wellman?

Good grief. It’s been a decade, man. If that’s just a few years to you then have at it, but a decade is a damn long time to suck.

You better start talking or get the fuck out of here with that bullshit. Wellman fucked Wake hoops for a decade. The Wellman defense is always to smear the last good coach we had. Total bullshit. If you want to insinuate things, grow some balls and tell us the story.

Dino Gaudio Fired at Wake Forest: Will School's Impatience Backfire?
Remember when Wake fans assumed that the hastily called press-conference to fire a very successful coach was because Wellman wanted the program to compete for a NC and had a crazy good coach in his pocket that he was set to announce? And then remember when we found out it was actually because he was just on an old white guy culture crusade, and already had plans in place to tank the entire program in order to appease his own fragile ego and some high rolling blue-hairs who were upset that Wake recruited talented basketball players who might actually want to play basketball professionally? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

40% of my time as a Wake fan.

So you’re saying you don’t like the new facilities?

Nice try. Your quote is from post #64 and the "rebuilding" refers to the basketball team. Successive twenty loss seasons indicate nothing has been rebuilt, the destruction remains. Pay attention.

BUT WE HAVE A NICE BUILDING!!! WHY CAN'T YOU JUST BE HAPPY WITH THAT!!????

Lol at the idea that a nice building means anything when the team that plays in it sucks ass. We may have finished 174 last season, but at least we have Top 25 facilities!!!! Those teams recruiting better talent and fielding better teams above us don't know that the real key to success is having awesome facilities that make it super easy for a lightly recruited player to choose between Wake and Belmont Abbey!

We did not go over a cliff before redacted. IMHO

[name redacted] WAS the cliff. Not even Chris actually believes Dino would have had us as the 258th team in the nation if he had stayed another year, but it's just the standard justification that Wellman's shoe lickers trot out without thinking.
