FUCK YOU, RON WELLMAN

Wellman didn't do anything facilities wise that every other SEC and ACC AD did, but he did manage to burn our premier sport down to the ground. There are probably 50 to 100 other AD's out there(hell, probably more than that) who could have done the same thing but without the demolition of basketball.

Good chance trolling, but if not, frankly amazing that anyone would believe that the Wake fan base is too intensely negative for a coach to handle.

Have a look around you. We're the most milquetoast fan base out there

Exhibit A: Tommy Elrod still lives in Winston-Salem...comfortably. I mean, damn.

Lots of other folks either don’t post on here or don’t feel like arguing with the echo chamber sentiment.

A lot of folks who supported Ron Wellman have come to realize that he did in fact destroy the men's basketball program. They reached that decision after the weight of evidence provided by Wellman over the past 9.5 years left them no other choice. The fact that he was dishonest with all of them was just an aggravating circumstance.

So did everybody.

To be fair...everyone in the Power 5 conferences have not. Wake's investments in facilities and resources is historic and transformational because we have (by far) the smallest budget of any Power 5 school, the fewest alumni and a local philanthropic/sponsorship base that is dramatically shrinking. Wake Football at its peak will have only a fraction of the revenue of our peer group...football revenues is why FSU can buyout their coach. On top of that...our endowment (even with the current Wake Will campaign) is less than 25% of the endowment of Duke and Vanderbilt. Substantial out-performance in athletic fundraising is really the only way Wake has any chance. Outside the complete failure with basketball leadership and performance these past 10 years, football and the vast majority of our Olympic sports are set up for continued success with better than P5 average resources and leadership.

And outside of that annoying gun shot, how did you enjoy the play, Mrs Lincoln.

Yeah. For all of time, history books will be filled with stories about the large gym that Wellman built. HISTORIC!

Okay wellman may deserve some credit for fundraising even though I think most of the credit goes to the benefactors who donated millions of dollars.

However this fantasy that Dino was running some out-of-control program when nothing has come out, and apparently all of this was discovered sometime between two and a half years into the program when Wellman gave him a huge extension and six months later when he fired him, and that somehow that forced Wellman to hire a coach with the personality of a wet sack of cement, is just nonsense.

Wellman and all the blue hairs had this idea that we could become some sort of Butler 4 year gym rat program. And he executed this Vision in about the worst way you that you possibly could.

And the only reason for the Manning extension is that his ego got the better of his judgment and he wanted to be right and leave the wake program in great shape even taking a reckless chance.

Without appreciating that Butler under Stevens was not a 4 year gym rat program. Both of his Final 4 teams had early entrants on them.

Wake is #81 in the country for total endowment overall, with only 48 schools ahead of them that play D1 football and basketball. So one of the top 50 D1 schools in terms of total endowment, Wake is not hurting for money. More importantly, is endowment per student enrolled, this is the true measure of a university's wealth. Wake is top 30 of D1 football/basketball schools in that regard. Of our "peer institutions" in athletics, which I would consider ACC, SEC, and Big10 schools, Wake has merely kept the pace on average with upgrading facilities. Wellman has done nothing special, and Wake while being the smallest P5 school, is not disadvantaged financially.

Wellman defenders who think his fundraising skills and facilities upgrades are special are simply mirroring Wellman's talking points and are ignorant to facts.

I walk my dog in Ron’s neighborhood, I do not know which house is his. I am systematically letting him shit in every yard in the hopes of that just one of these shits ends up in Wellmans yard. Thanks for your sacrifice residents of Camelot.

It's off of Marble Arch, correct? Or one of those roads around there.

The real question is what additional improvements to these already state of the art new facilities could be made with an additional $18 million.

It's such a strange take to be super excited about a new building when teams with far less resources are regularly beating us on the court. If it doesn't translate into success, what the hell good is it, outside of stroking the the egos of those who built it? Are there really Wake fans who sit around watching the Deacs get clobbered while thinking about how proud they are about the buildings on campus?

Saw a Wake fan and fellow grad the other day at my son's soccer game. We were both talking football, and then the conversation turned the basketball. Neither of us said anything about being proud of the facilities we had...

Yup, lives real close to Forsyth Country Club. Amazing. Would think some people would have run Wellman and him out of town by now. If Winston-Salem was anything like Lumberton someone would have set their houses on fire. We have a tame fan base.
