Wake Forest Football Recruiting

For those of you with concerns about the defense...remember, we played most of the season without Strnad and Masterson, two major contributors and leaders.

And we will play without them next year too.

And we will likely play a significant portion of next season without other starters. It is football. You should expect to lose a few significant contributors every year. Obviously, Strnad was a big deal.

I think the point that Clawson is trying to make is that recruiting rankings don't account for interest from schools trying to flip recruits without formally offering them. They will start the flirtation process and if there is no reciprocation from the recruit, the school moves on with out formally extending an offer. As a result, the offer isn't listed on recruiting sites like 247, but if the WF recruit had shown interest like WF commit Shane Whitter (who did flip to OU), then they would've gotten an offer.

Perhaps the same happened with Boaz and tOSU.

I know someone who teaches at East Surry. He says former Indiana HC Wilson, now OSO OC/TE Coach, came to East Surry to offer Boaz at QB. He learned that Boaz’ blood runs Carolina Blue. Btw, we tried to flip Gosnell and he was very interested. He loves Coach Higgins. But he caught enough grief when he flipped from NCSU to UNC and didn’t want to go through it again. Understandable.

See, that’s something I don’t understand. What’s the point of committing to a school early if you’re still not 100% sure you truly are committed. I completely understand these guys are high schoolers, but if he felt like Wake was the correct fit for him, he should have went to Wake. That’s all reliant upon if what you say is true. Maybe he truly loves Carolina.

So according to Clawson, we are not done recruiting and are still recruiting a few kids who haven't signed. Does anybody have any idea who some of those kids are?

Well it should be easy to narrow it down. Probably start with MAC kids who didn't sign.

The point is he had more options later in the process.

It’s almost as if a small town HS teacher might overstate a big time program’s interest in one of his students. No one recruits 3 QBs in the same class, let alone starts kicking the tires on a new prospect a day or two before NSD. Especially a school that has 2 top 15 QBs in the fold. This all reads like a UNC puff story to boost a commit’s rep.

Anyways, hopefully Clawson and co can make some inroads at East Surry going forward.

Wilson, who grew up in NC, was in NC visiting another OSU recruit and met with Boaz at East Surry to offer him a scholarship. It’s a fact. Maybe they wanted him as a TE. I’m certainly not trying to puff UNC’s recruiting. Btw, Wilson is also interested in Benji Gosnell, who is a soph WR we have already offered.

Did Wittner sign early? Any possibility of getting him back if Lincoln goes to Dallas?

I could see the last few guys in this class not being solidified until May. Grad transfers who need the spring semester to finish the degree at their current school, then moving with two years eligibility.

Three years plus three summers gets a degree at many places.

He signed on Wednesday. I guess, in theory, OU could let him out of his LOI if Riley leaves, but safe to consider him a lost cause.

The best news yet.

Sorry, I had not seen the news regarding Sage returning. Together these are highly encouraging!!!
