Basham, Surratt, Hartman and Kern return

Is Fromm even likely to go? A lot of QBs high on draft boards this year and he’s been solid but unspectacular.

Oregon actually makes a lot of sense. Herbert stayed a year longer than most people thought so I could see it being empty behind him with QBs who would be ready. I also think they are now using more of a traditional run heavy pro style offense under Cristobal. Which would both better suite and prepare Jamie for the NFL.

Honestly the more I think about, the more I get it. He gave his four years to Wake, but he’s hit his ceiling in this offense. Not to mention the injury risk of being a QB in it is extreme. Go somewhere else for a year, like most due for grad school, and enjoy yourself. You’ll have your Wake degree and get to experience something new. And you won’t be constrained by this turd offense.

A healthy Hartman is equivalent to slightly better than a banged up Newman. A healthy Newman is light years better than a health Hartman.

Hope Hartman stays healthy next year.

There were two games this year in which both Newman and Hartman threw more than two passes apiece.

Louisville:
Jamie Newman 24/41 251 6.1 3 2 46.2
Sam Hartman 9/15 172 11.5 2 0 90.3

Newman 9 rushes for 13 yards
Hartman 2 rushes for 4 yards and 1 TD

Syracuse:
Sam Hartman 25/42 350 8.3 2 2 63.0
Jamie Newman 6/13 71 5.5 0 1 9.4

Hartman 10 rushes for 42 yards
Newman 12 rushes for 23 yards

Those numbers are not, IMO, equivalent to or slightly better than Newman's. To my knowledge, Newman wasn't even banged up coming into the Louisville game. I am very disappointed in the news, and would have hoped and expected that Newman would have continued to start next year, but your post sells Hartman short.

Seems like Clawson is the type who would get really pissed at tampering and try to block a transfer because of it. I'm sure the NCAA could do something, but doubt they would.

I think that's underselling Hartman he is significantly better than a banged-up Newman. He was the starting quarterback for the FSU game which was arguably one of our two best Wins of the year. He played great in the Louisville game and almost let us back to an incredible comeback. We were getting destroyed by Syracuse and we're going to get blown out if Newman stayed in the game and he came in and threw for 350 yards in just a little more than 1/2 and was on the way to winning the game without that crazy strip of Hinton.

I think you are right; but Clawson might respond by telling a player who reached out to schools before entering the portal that his career at WF is over?

If Jamie transfers he can go fuck himself. Tired of LOWF "fans" who think kids need to transfer for better opportunities. He wouldn't be on anyone's fucking radar if not for Wake Forest and playing in Clawson and Ruggiero's offense. Also, Clawson shouldn't guarantee him shit. Newman should have to beat out Hartman if he wants to be the starter, and if he's so much better like some posters think, then he should be able to. I personally think they are very close because while Jamie is better running the ball, Hartman is the better passer and executes his reads faster.

Really sad about Tayvon Bowers, the original QB1. Would have loved to seen a couple completions by him. Best of luck for him in the future.

Newman got hurt during the Louisville game with roughly 10:00 to play in the 2nd quarter. Both of his INT's came after the injury.

I do, however, agree with your point that WF can win with a healthy Hartman

Hartman is being massively underrated by several posters. Jamie lead an incredible offense at times but also just didn’t show up for long stretches, and has shown no ability to consistently score without top WRs. We will see, I don’t expect our offense to miss a beat as long as our OL doesn’t amount to what wolford had to deal with as a freshman.

I think the suggestion that he may have felt pressure to play to preserve Sam’s RS status actually makes sense and could be an explanation. If he goes to Oregon and doesn’t win the starting job I would have to imagine there would be some schadenfreude on the part of WF.

If Jamie stayed, good chance Hartman leaves. I’ll take 3 years of Hartman over 1 year of Newman.

You're right, I meant "coming in to." Will edit.

Neither guy has to leave. In the last 5 years, not once has the whole season gone by without the starting QB getting injured.
