Taggart just got canned and starts the Coaching Carousel early

Great get for Miss St. Leach v. Kiffin should make for a nice rivalry. The Egg Bowl decided by someone pretending to pee in the end zone might look tame going forward.

Yet the leg pissing is what got us to this point.

I want the Egg Bowl pressers to be like a UFC weigh in.

Lane kiffin probably thought he would own the state and the oxygen just got sucked out of the room

SEC West coaches:

Saban
Malzahn
Orgeron
Kiffin
Leach
Pittman
Jimbo

Great coaches and some great/oddball personalities.

4-6 could either be very good or very bad. It will be interesting to watch that unfold over the next couple of years.

Starting to wonder about Jimbo. I didn’t think it was a smart decision for him to go there a couple of years ago, and I think that thought is starting to be confirmed. Too much competition in that conference, and he doesn’t seem to be winning the battles.

I'm curious, Biff. How would you rank that list?
I think I'd say:
1 Saban [at least for now]
2 Orgeron
3 Leach/Malzahn [are probably a tie; they just seem about the same even if personal records aren't the same]
5 Kiffin
6 Jimbo [Noles declined under him; Aggies aren't climbing]

*I don't know enough about Pittman to rank yet

True but he may have been out at FSU by now anyway. At least he’ll have an $EC buyout.

It sounds like everyone on this board has visited Waco and Starkville.

Went to WFU at Baylor in 2007 or 2008. It was an oven hot armpit of a place. The downtown was dilapidated. The campus was unimpressive. No tailgating (alcohol) was permitted in the university owned parking lots adjacent to the stadium. Syracuse is a close second, but Waco was the worst college football road trip ever.

I'd go:

1. Saban
2. Malzahn
3. Jimbo
4. Orgeron
5. Leach
6. Kiffin
7. Pittman

Coach O is 58 and just figred out how to do his job, granted he figured it out very well. I put Jimbo ahead ofhim because he's already won a NC. We'll see how it plays out at A&M, but he's got recruiting rolling right now.

Leach is an amazing innovator but he's never really won anything and has good for a third place finish (on average) at a couple of schools where it's tough to win.

Pittman is a beloved coach and individual. Lots of people want to see him succeed.

Thanks for the feedback.
I've always liked Leach for some reason, so I probably hold him in higher regard. And yes, I understand with the "he's never really won anything" sentiment... but what was it, like, sixteen bowls in eighteen years? That's still pretty good regardless.
As for Jimbo... yeah, National Championship, sure. But that NC just keeps getting further away with each passing year. Besides, fuck Texas A&M. Lol

Oh, I could also swap Orgeron and Malzahn. They actually were the hardest for me to rate, almost tied them at two. I finally decided that Orgeron has probably separated from Malzahn. At least, I think the next few years are going to be better in Death Valley than in Auburn.

You know Leach is going to produce yards and points. If he can get a
halfway decent defense, he’d have a good team. Either way, should be fun to watch

You know that Malzahn won a NC as Auburn's OC and really should have won one as Auburn's head coach in 2013, right ?

You are assuming that Jimbo was optimizing around where he could win the most games / most easily compete for a national championship. He was actually optimizing around money though, and it's hard to make an argument that he didn't do the right thing given that. TAMU will pay him at least $75M. I think it's highly unlikely that he wins a championship there, given how clearly and quickly Clemson outpaced his FSU program.

Yep. But he didn't win either as a head coach, now did he?
Again, not disagreeing that he's a good coach. And as you yourself have alluded to before, he's greatly underappreciated by many, including by certain segments of Auburn fandom.
I just think Orgeron is going to outpace him, although I fully admit it could be recency bias on my part. They could easily switch back with each other and my opinion could change. As I said, they were the hardest for me to rank.

Leach is great coach at a down on its luck program.

Really don't think Saban or Dabo would've done as well at Texas Tech and Wazzu. Just look at those programs before and after Leach. That said, if Leach coaches at Bama, he would never have the sustained success that Saban has had. So, it's really hard to rank the coaches as school situations call for different talents.

Good post. Totally agree. For many of the same reasons Dave Clawson has been a great fit for Wake Forest and vice versa.

Clemson has it so made not having to tangle in the SEC.

I'd be surprised if Dabo doesn't have 5-7 titles before its over with.

I still think teams 5-14 in the SEC are pretty awful. Even in comparison to the ACC. I don’t see this changing.

To win a title, Dabo will have to beat SC and one or two of the best teams in the SEC anyway. Three of the next four seasons, they’ll have to beat ND too.

Well unless they are tangling with LSU, Bama, or UGA these are automatic wins. Maybe one day 4-5 years out F$U will learn how to play football again.
