Basham, Surratt, Hartman and Kern return

Newman has enrolled in classes at Georgia and will participate in spring practice. He will battle rising junior Stetson Bennett, redshirt freshman D'Wan Mathis and incoming freshman Carson Beck of Jacksonville, Florida, for the starting job. Mathis underwent emergency brain surgery on May 22.

If Newman doesn't win the starting job at Georgia, can he transfer to another school before the season starts?

Last NC QB at Georgia was Joe Cox and he sucked. Lost at home to Kentucky.

Sure. But we are talking about Kyler Murray.

No we are talking about one job over the other. Murray was just the most recent example.

It really comes up to the athlete as to whether they would rather “stand in the outfield” or “stand on the sidelines”

I am so glad we had Jamie as a Deacon but he is showing the "Me" side instead of the Team side moving so he looks better, not because he wants any team he is on to play better. NFL loves talent but character matters. GA losing top 2 and 4 of top 6 linemen, top 2 backs and #1 RB recruit. They may finish 3rd in their division.

Apparently Jamie was promised the starting spot. That's really a way to piss off kids already in the program. Not smart leaking that by Jamie's family

My only other point about Jamie and the RPO was that he turned it into a RRPO. First option was hand off, his Second option was his run and he was not quick to hit the slant or hitch or quick out if the CB took a step towards the run choices. Dropbacks he was money but the mesh seemed so different after his first look.

Jamie went from riding the pine behind a true freshman at WAKE FOREST to being declared the starting QB at UGA within 16 months. Wow.

This makes the inevitable UGA/Wake playoff matchup next year that much more interesting.

A Biff divided against itself cannot post!

Biff...

Any chance for straight talk from you on Jaime Newman leaving Wake Forest and enrolling at Georgia to complete his college football career?

I would actually like to read your opinion on this matter.

This is one of the silver linings of all this. Biff spent this past season hyping up the Dawgs and ragging on Newman and looking down at Wake. Now he's dumbfounded that his fellow Georgia fans are hyped to have LOWF QB Jamie Newman and have anointed him as their starter.

Jamie Newman has ice water in his blood. You can toss out the "clutch" or "playmaker" gene all you want, but Jamie brought W's in for Wake time and time again. He may be phased by the defenses or athleticism in the SEC, but the man knows how to win. I think UGA can build around that.

Maybe this is in the 60 pages, but is there another example of a *starter* at a P5 school grad transferring to another one (without a coaching change involved)?

Not sure of the details around Hornibrook from Wisconsin but he started 30+ games there before moving to FSU (that move obviously didn’t work out)

Also not sure of details around former Arkansas starting QB who went to WKU and then destroyed Arkansas this past season

That promise is meaningless. The football factories promise everyone they are going to start. Same logic behind taking 40 commitments for 25 slots.

UGA fans are thrilled and Mark Richt predicts Newman will be the top QB in the SEC next season.

Until he lost 4 out of his last 5 games while playing like dog shit. Amazing how many poster are able to pretend that the last half of the season did not happen.

Jamie started believing the Heisman hype and decided he was too good for Wake scrubs and coaching staff.

Will be surprised if he lives up to all of this hype.
