Middle East: Saudis Murder & Dismember Washington Post Contributor

From today’s W-SJ letters to editor...

We used to be

President Trump promised to stop endless wars. Then he ripped up our nuclear agreement with Iran. Now he has, overnight, increased the chance of war with Iran a thousand-fold.

Afghanistan should have been enough. Iraq should have been enough. I truly thought Trump understood that. I thought this was the one thing he got right.

War kills people. War with Iran would kill Americans.

Trump said if Iran retaliated, he would target sites that include cultural sites, clearly an attack on the Iranian people rather than the Iranian government.

On Sunday evening, Trump told reporters: “They’re allowed to kill our people. They’re allowed to torture and maim our people. They’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people. And we’re not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn’t work that way.”

This is nuts. Who allows them to torture, maim and kill our people? Seriously, who allows that? Who says it’s OK? Iran? He thinks we should be like Iran?

The way “this works,” or the way it used to, was that America rose above the evil committed by other countries. Our standards were higher. We were a city on a hill. But Trump wants us to be a city in a dumpster fire, outdoing every other country in our ability to commit atrocities.

Someone tell me how that makes America great again.

So when are we going to have hearings about this?

To his credit, Chris Wallace today challenged Trump's National Security Advisor about this. He asked him why Trump would give Laura Ingraham information about the threatened embassy attacks in his interview with her that he wouldn't divulge to Congress in a private meeting. Trump's National Security Advisor didn't directly answer that question or a number of others Wallace asked him, but instead deflected and stuck to his own talking points. No surprise, but at least Wallace asked the obvious question.

Republicans are going to be PISSED about this. If there’s anything they hate, it’s federal officials using talking points and not being honest or direct in answering questions about US embassy attacks on Sunday morning shows. Brad is about to be livid. Does Trey Gowdy know about this?

I listened a bit to Hannity’s radio show on Friday while driving and some Iranian defector called in to talk about how he fled to escape the regime and was a refugee and how great the US is. And Hannity was lapping it up saying how amazing his story was that he gave up everything to seek a better life. The cognitive dissonance is stunning.

Yep. The US is responsible for the current Iranian government and “we” now hate immigrants, especially from countries like Iran.

But he needlessly created the exact environment in which it happened.

Yep. If Trump hadn't assassinated Soliemani, the Iranians would not have been shooting ballistic missiles from Iran towards Iraq.

Just so you know, the plane wasn’t shot down by a ballistic missile.

I wonder if when the interview was over, Hannity walked back to his office and called INS and told them that he knew where they could find an Iranian terrorist/Muslim radical to deport. It would certainly fit the M.O. of this administration.

Last week Alex Jones went into a blind rage because there were Muslims eating at his hamburger restaurant. Definitely in the M.O.
