PLEASE CURRIE!!!!

LOL, no. There were two lower level sections full with students (104 and 103). I was impressed with the crowd and students given the season and the NFL playoffs.

I want Manning gone yesterday, but there is no need to make things up. The truth is more than enough.

You may have wanted manning gone yesterday but "last week"* you wanted him to keep getting chances.

*last week is clearly a joke but you supported him so long that your POV is... suspect.

It is so obvious that a change must occur, I don't understand the advantage in postponing the inevitable. Relieving DM of his duties now and installing an interim allows the official search to begin well in advance of the end of the season. Plus taking action now will inspire hope and interest in the program...things long lost to many fans.

The only negative would be if there are several players who really love DM and would not respond well to an in-season firing. I really have no idea as to the bond between team and coach.

They may respond poorly to an in season firing but they are currently responding... predictably... to his coaching so... who gives a shit?

You have me confused with someone else. I have wanted Manning fired for years.

While that would appease some folks in the fan base , I'm 100% confident that this approach would have zero impact either positive or negative on who we end up with as our next coach.

Currie's main focus should be appeasing what is left of the fan base. He should be offering blow jobs in the parking lot to any fans still around after this debacle.

Danny Manning is still the "Danny" part of Danny and the Miracles. Legendary in college basketball. The coaches Wake would like to hire all know this. How Wake treats Danny on the way out may play a role in negotiating with the next coach. Currie will treat him with respect all the way to the end.

Manning has definitely underperformed even the lowest of expectations at Wake, and is apparently not suited to coach at the P6 level. Currie will be respectful in how he makes the change. Dramatic statements or a dramatic midseason firing may make a few on here feel better, but, as noted above, will not improve the ability of Wake to hire a good successor. It may cause some candidates to negotiate harder and demand more guarantees to avoid a similar fate.

Respectful to who? Respectful to the guy who is basically extorting the Athletic Department for millions upon millions of dollars? Why should he not be respectful to the alumni and fans who still have some level of concern for this program after the last 11 goddamn years? That is who he should be trying to be respectful to. But instead he gives them the finger by refusing to even acknowledge the situation. If he is trying to be respectful, he is aiming that respect in the wrong direction.

Listen people. Manning was retained for this season with full knowledge that the team wasn't loaded with 5-star players and he can't coach. The results of the season so far were fully expected and not cause for a mid-year firing. There's six-and-a-half weeks left in this basketball season and Manning will be the coach until it's over. Get tha fuk over it.

Please pull the plug NOW and let us get started on an interim. I am sure Athletics Director Currie is in talks with somebody anybody who will come here and right this ship. Make a move quick

Can't agree more. Follow the Dave Tepper model and cut bait now so can openly entertain candidates without having to go behind his back and do what everyone in the modern world knows you should be doing. Unless of course there is a big penalty to terminate him now vs. end of season. In that case you tell him unless he wins a Natty this year then he is done and you can in good faith start talking to folks without playing games.

Damn! My system is showing almost 3k viewers online at the moment, and I got SO excited... He's still here, isn't he?

Is there a legit argument that a mid-season firing (absent misconduct or the like) is actually linked to a more successful search? I can’t think of anything. Manning being actively employed in no way impedes Currie laying a foundation for the next hire. Especially since some of the targets are presumably employed as well. Seems like it would just be a move to satisfy fans.

This. I seriously wonder how many posters on this board would be lining up for a job at a firm/company that hasn't been successful in nearly a decade and has gone through three high level employees and the third was terminated during the critical period of performance in public fashion.

Even the top level candidates are going to, at a minimum, insist on more money and more guarantees IF they even consider the job.

That said, I just spent a minute typing about something that isn't going to happen. Manning will not be fired mid-season.

You give me 18mil guaranteed with little to no performance expectations I'm in line all day.

Again, who else should be trying to satisfy at this point?

I just told you people he's not getting fired before the end of the season and to suck it up. Please stop.

No. This is supposedly the place to Discuss Wake Forest Sports Freely. On that subject, what other topic of discussion is more important than our Athletic Director, after 8 to 10 months on the job, failing to address, in any way, our shitshow of a flagship athletic program? Until the sorry sonofabitch actually does his job, or gives a rational explanation as to why he is unable to do his job, I'm going to keep calling him a useless, sackless, pussy who is no better than the piece of shit that he purportedly replaced.

Wellman? Hatch? All the other blue hair donors?

I know several of the very wealthy blue hairs. The distance between their reality and this board's would make your head absolutely explode.

Basketball ain’t our flagship athletic program anymore.

OK. Keep discussing it. Freely. Manning’s not going to be fired mid-season.
