Manning Buyout Negotiations Have Begun

I was told, "you know that it's still a financial issue" and "it will be out next week" (which is now this week).

Whether these financial issues were resolved or not, I could not say, but if he was not being retained, I would have thought that would have been mentioned.

I'll wait for Sportsnut or Les to back up that statement.

yeah but our past 2 major coaching changes (Bz/Grobe) were "resignations" so as I recall there was a presser for each. can't remember if Bz spoke but I know Grobe did.

At least Grobe earned the right to speak, Bz did not.

You think he’s being retained?

To me, it read that he was given information that the money was the issue, but he was given no answer if he was being fired or not. He very well could be right, but sportsnut’s info has been more complete as he’s stated multiple times that he is gone this week.

If WFU is retaining Manning then Currie should resign immediately after the announcement.

WFU should just be honest and say the only reason Manning is still our coach is because we cannot afford to buy him out.

Kind of like the Marshawn Lynch interview "I'm just here so I don't get fined".

I can hear Manning now...When announced he's being retained: "I'm just here cause they can't afford to fire me"....Reporter: Danny, do you think your teams have been up to WF standards over the past 6 seasons? Danny: "I'm just here cause they can't afford to fire me"

I still maintain that those who think we are hiring a big name with a salary similar to Manning or higher, (2.5-3.0 mm) will be disappointed. We will hire a low end salary coach , say Forbes or Miller, with big time contract incentives for success. Currie can use this with the Board to mitigate financial concerns with the buyout. If there are still financial conncerns, Currie needs a talking point beyond higher revenues at the Joel.

The mood has completely changed for no reason in the last 24 hours. We all have been following what sportsnut has been reporting and he hasn’t changed his standpoint once in this time. I highly doubt we were on the home stretch of negotiations just to get fucked by money.

"Conor, I said they can't afford to fire me."

Finally something useful from you and not a Mr. Wellman ball gargling post.

No.

If he's retained, Currie and Hatch should immediately resign, and quite possibly numerous members of the BOT. Is there a way for alums to express a vote of no confidence?

Since we have heard nothing today, I am not hopeful. Seems like you have either got this thing done or you don't and apparently we don't. What is going to change? There is no incentive for Manning to budge. If we can not reassign him or tell him his budget is cut and he can travel by bus and eat at Micky D's what is left in Currie's bag? He was left with a load of shit and no way to get rid of it. Would have thought he would have investigated all this before he agreed to come. Unless someone makes a bold move we are stuck with DM for the next few years. Can't think one more year will matter. It will only reduce the buyout 3 Mil and that will not be enough to make a big difference, plus the department will be further in the red since no one will attend basketball games

I can thing of only one reason why there has not been an announcement of termination since the ACCT was cancelled. [Name redacted] "resigned" four days after the Va Duke game. Curry is whiffing on his top options and may have to weigh keeping Manning vs. an unproven hire.

You take the unproven hire over the proven loser 10 out of 10 times.
