ALL PRAISE JOHN CURRIE FOR ACTING A YEAR TOO LATE

can we stop this thread at 69?

You know something, you're right. The Fuck You John Currie crowd have no insider information whatsoever regarding anything that has transpired within the AD or Wake as a whole within the last year. They also have no clue as to the how significant the current mitigating circumstances are. I don't either. And yet I'm arguing with them.

My fault. I'm out.

at this point Currie's silence is just insane

shit or get off the pot, john

Maybe Manning's contract year is through March, so we'll hear something tomorrow. Doubtful, I know.

I think Currie wants to fire Manning, and he's going to wait as long as he can to see if it is a financially viable option this year.

Or, his silence speaks volumes. Seems like Currie has communicated how he views Manning’s performance quite clearly. He is not blowing smoke up our asses like Wellman did. Seems pretty obvious he wants to shit.

I think this too.
The most interesting thing right now is the silence.
Our two main "competitors" to also have job openings were BC and Texas. Then the Coronavirus hit and the bottom fell out economically. This caused everything to go into freeze-mode, as we all know. Texas and BC both waited for over a week, but still ultimately made announcements that Shaka and Christian were getting reprieved on account of the current environment.
Currie has yet to do this. I think he had decided to fire Manning after the ACC Tourney was over. Then Coronavirus happened, sports came to a freezing halt and remains frozen for the foreseeable future with revenue streams to match. I think Currie still WANTS to fire Manning's ass. I think he's going to wait until sometime in April and see if he can do it then.
The most recent Yahoo Sports 'Coaching Carousel' article was illuminating in potentially hinting at this attitude on Currie's part. It heavily depends on football revenues flowing in the fall.

Meaning that as in 2007 we are looking at hiring a new head coach in July or later. Completely different circumstances but the pool of available replacements will be shallow by then.

Right, but the crucial difference between then and now, is there won't be any previous openings prior to us. We'd be *IT*.
You could have your pick of the candidate litter, so to speak. Or, use this time to line up your chosen hire in principle.
Granted if, huge *IF*, Currie is able to pull the trigger by mid-April or early Summer we don't know what the reaction of the Power 6/7 would be... If it's perceived as safe for Wake to make a change at that point, does that cause a mad stampede of quick fire/hires? We don't know.
It all depends on if football revenues are able to melt the ice in the revenue streams this fall.
Personally, I think ultimately Currie is going to have to wait. Who knows, Manning might actually get to be a mid-season firing after all... just next year.

Happy April Fools Day, Currie. Though the joke has been on us for the last 11 months, you useless bastard. Fuck you.

YEAH 2&2! You're not allowed to have an opinion unless you have 15 million dollars to give to WFU for the buyout! Until then you are a non-person!

Quit bitching about it and step up with the money to get it done.

As I've repeatedly said, no money is needed. You fire his ass, don't pay him a dime, and make him come get it. That will be years down the road before anything is finalized, and it will settle for cents on the dollar. But that requires some balls, and the birthday boy has already demonstrated he has none. Cue lame excuse about that will scare off all potential coaches who believe they will be as bad as Manning.

ah, the trump approach of simply ignoring contracts. no way that blows back on an institution of higher learning.
