They are misleading people intentionally.

Germany, Italy, Iran, Spain... etc, All have a much higher percentage of their population infected. When adjusted by population we are doing better at containing the spread than many western European countries. This is certainly not the story they are trying to push.

The only chart they did adjust was the testing which put us slightly below most European.

We're not doing better, they just had a few people travel from Wuhan to Europe directly, so they got it sooner. A few weeks head start gets you the difference between 5% of the population having it and 40% of the population having it. The shape of the curve on a logarithmic scale will show you who is doing better.

Huh? Adjusting for population can provide you more information, but it doesn't really tell you much about the job a country is doing to contain the spread.

Imagine 2 countries who have an outbreak starting the same day. Country A has 1 million people, Country B has 10 million. Neither country does anything. In a week, both countries go from 1 person infected to 1,000 people infected. By your logic, country B would have done a much better job of containing the spread, simply by being bigger.

There is very little evidence we have done anything to contain the spread here, though I'm hopeful the stay at home orders will start to bend the death curve soon.

Not true because they adjust the graphs so the countries start at an infection level of 100 cases and move by day. A more accurate comparison would be either compare the US to Western Europe, but that wouldn't paint the picture that they want.

I've seen graphs that show it on a logarithmic scale. The US is not doing better.

Perhaps Vox got their information from government resources that woefully underestimated the problem. The idea that governors and presidents are reading news papers or watching the news to get information about an urgent deadly threat is so fucking backwards. Did George Bush come along after 9/11 and say “how were we supposed to know?!?” The NY Times never told us about Al Qeda!!1!”? Take your RV back to your worm farm in Arkansas and self isolate, Eddie. It’s the best thing for youself and society at large.
