2020 Democratic Presidential Primary

On one hand, I understand where you're coming from. On the other hand, many people have endured much worse in order to use and keep their right to vote. Wisconsin Democrats are literally deciding whether or not to try to maintain their voting rights. That's the bind Republicans have put them in.

What if Republicans pull the same thing in November? Do you tell Democrats not to vote then, too?

So having someone with virtually no minority support in the ticket is a "great idea". Maybe for Trump it would be.

Biden seems to have the black vote wrapped up on his own.

(I’m sure Brad will be along to remind us Warren can get the NA voters)

People are going to die in Wisconsin today. Biden was not a very responsible voice saying it was safe to vote in person. I won’t be more inflammatory than that.

Hadn't seen that Biden said that, but I agree with you if he did.

Let’s be perfectly clear. The blame rests solely on the Courts. Both for closing precincts/disenfranchisement and for holding in person voting.

But Bernie a full week before the court decision did the responsible thing and said he was doing no GOTV and came out strongly against in person voting. That’s clearly the responsible thing.

Bernie did a town hall tonight about how Covid is disproportionately affecting black Americans too and had some poignant words about Wisconsin.

The Republicans in the Court gladly accept that blame. They call it credit, though. There no other way to fight these assholes except for showing up at the polls. It's not even about the Dem primary. The race is over and Bernie is going to ignore the results anyway. It's about that Wisconsin Supreme Court seat.

I can't find any statement from the Biden camp condemning the Court's action, tbh. Seems like you'd want to do that, at least.

It would make less than no sense to have Warren as VP. She's another old white person.Plus, she had basically zero black support during her campaign. There's no chance for Trump to win MA. So, that's not a reason either. On top of that her first position of taking away private insurance will be hammered home in hundreds of millions of dollars in attack ads.

It has been customary over the years to discuss the political ramifications of a potential VP pick, as you have done here. However, if Joe Biden is the nominee in 2020 we do not have that luxury. For obvious reasons, the VP on a ticket with Joe Biden must first and foremost be IMMEDIATELY qualified & ready to assume the presidency. And anyone who thinks that Stacey Abrams and Elizabeth Warren are even remotely comparable in this regard should have his head examined.

Just curious, who would you recommend as a VP pick?

Is that a serious question? Did you not read my previous post? Elizabeth Warren. (Though she SHOULD be at the top of the ticket. Joe Biden has no chance to defeat Trump. He probably should be in assisted living.)

This VP pick is going to be in the same situation that Harry Truman was in in 1944.

In addition to needing some one capable of stepping up and taking over from day one, we also need someone to lead the party in 2024 and beyond. We need a woman in her 50s or early 60s. I think Warren is too old to be the VP pick. I love her and think she should be the nominee but she doesn’t fill one of the two urgent needs for the Democratice party as a VP.

If someone other than Biden was the nominee, I would agree with you. As I said, though, if you are going to make Joe Biden the nominee you have to forego those political luxuries. What woman in her 50s or early 60s is currently qualified and ready to immediately assume the presidency? Certainly not Stacey Abrams. The only other possible options I can think of would be Amy Klobuchar or Kamala Harris....and they are not nearly as ready to be president right now as Elizabeth Warren, in my opinion. Plus, on the political side, I don't think progressives would be too fond of either one of them.

If Biden wanted to guarantee victory in a landslide he would go with Michelle Obama, but no way Joe is going to want to be in the shadow of Obama again if he were to be elected President.

I don't think that Michelle Obama would want to give up the life of luxury she is living now to get back in the political slop. And, anyway, what has she ever done to qualify her for the presidency? Hillary Clinton has already played that role....but she was at least a U.S.Senator and SOS before running for the presidency. (And it didn't work out very well, either.)

the TRUE unity ticket would be biden-clinton! her turn, again!

That would be a true unity ticket, for sure.....unified again against the progressives....but I'd bet that Team Clinton has been making phone calls. If you can't get in the front door, try the back door. You KNOW the Clinton operatives have thought about it.

(I realize you were only joking.)

I agree that Harris is the frontrunner at this point

since he's committed to a female VP, not sure which swing state politician fits the bill
