New coaching search thread

John Currie, if you do not hire Thad Matta you are turning your back on the following WINNING RECORD:

Overall: 439-154

Tournaments: NCAA 24-13. Final Four 2007, 2012. NIT 6-1, Championship 2008.

Regular Season Championships: Horizon League in 2001. Atlantic 10 in 2002,2003. Big 10 in 2006, 2007, 2010-2012.

League Tournament Championships: Horizon League in 2001. Atlantic 10 in 2002, 2004. Big 10 in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013.

Coach of the Year Awards: 5 times.

I don't think it will be Currie who screws this up. I think it will be Mr. Ivory Tower himself. The same guy, on whose watch, brought us perhaps one of the worst negotiated coaching contracts in major college sports history.

Forbes has a better resume than Miller; I’d be happy with either

That tweet from Anthony Bilas scares me.

Jay Bilas and Tommy Amaker are very, very close.

I hope the kid didn’t tweet that because he’s worried mean Wake fans will be rude to uncle Tommy.

What kind of plane did Danny arrive in? Don't think it was a jet, think it was a twin engine turboprop owned by our AD.

that is what I recalled but previously before Manning was fired I posted a video of him arriving and it was on a jet registered to Flow. can't seem to find the video now otherwise I'd look up where the plane is. maybe it was Clawson on the turboprop?

How could Bilas or any other player think we as fans could've not been against Manning with his W/L record. I get that player/coach relationship is different and special, but I don't care how much the players liked him or whatever, he wasn't getting his job done.

The short answer is that we collectively were so angry that Manning was still here and with a potential albatross of a contract, that we did not give a shit as to how this affected the team. Getting yelled at in game infused the team with an us vs them attitude where the "them" was both the opponent and us - the fans. It sucked for them. That, of course, makes the act of recruiting better players impossible. To be clear, we didn't turn Danny Manning into a bad coach. We got in the way of a mediocre to bad coach after he started to dive (after Collins left).

I honestly don't know how to correct it. If a dozen dumbasses are yelling at Manning during the game, there is no way to control that other than to start winning. I do think we as fans build our narrative and run with it hells bells and those narratives aren't always built on anything resembling fact. The myth that Danny Manning was a lazy coach, for example, smacked of old school dog whistle racism (thank you DonaldRoss), and it wasn't true to boot. Sadly, it's up to each individual's to react and respond to frustration (we suck and that sucks!) with some degree of maturity and without self-sabotage and somehow refrain from the mob mentality of going for the jugular in-season. Unfortunately, for some of these dumbasses, the fact that we DID fire Manning will be translated as their assholeness was successful and served its purpose.

It feels comparable to opening back up our economy. We are essentially at the mercy of individuals to pull themselves out of society when they are sick. Happy Thoughts!

Honestly, the players over these last ten years don't need to say anything. If they come out and openly support mediocrity, that's just the same as fans criticizing it. Just shut the fffffuuuuuuccckkkk up, do your best and move on. The program has a higher standard.

It is so shortsighted and LOWF to be worried about the fact that Wes Miller went to UNC. Who cares?

He is clearly someone who cares more about winning than about UNC. That's a dumb take.

Equally silly to think that just because Pat Kelsey coached at Wake Forest 11 years ago that he is more qualified to coach.

Clawson is doing fine without any Wake ties.

Great post

A Bombardier Challenger 300 just took off from KINT. It's heading to the northwest. No info on Flightaware, but flightradar24 has it flying that way. Just passed Cana, VA.

Amaker is on it! he flew down, found out Simos is closed and went home.

Agreed.

Either Miller or Forbes would likely be very good coaches for us. Miller has been a strong recruiter at UNCG so there's no reason to think he wouldn't be able to land top 50-100 talent consistently at Wake.

Recruiting at ETSU is different than recruiting to Wake. If Forbes recruited top high school talent while at Tennessee, there's no reason to think he wouldn't be able to recruit fine at Wake. Just because he relies heavily on Jucos at his current job doesn't mean that's the only way he could succeed.

I think if Miller comes in and has great success here, with his family connections to Wake, he could be a guy that stays for life. I think Forbes would be more likely to see Wake as a stepping stone if a blue-blood program comes calling after 3 or 4 years.

As much as I like Kelsey, I have serious questions about whether he is ready to lead an ACC program. I think he has the charisma and energy that we need but I would be concerned about his teams' lack of defense.

Turns out winning is fun. It's too bad Bilas didn't get to experience that.

Sounds like Anthony probably knew Amaker interviewed but I highly doubt Anthony has a scoop on who the next coach is
