Weekly cell phone thread: NEW iPhone DISCUSSION GOES HERE

Interesting...Samsung is starting to hype their own product unveiling on October 11th, and have released this image:

It looks like the Nexus Prime may be a large, curved glass design.

Wo, you think its going to be as curved as it looks in that picture?

Curved glass designs are something that more than a few companies have been working on for quite a while. It would not surprise me in the least if the Prime was the first device to introduce it to the market.

I don't think it'd be the first, iirc the Nexus S featured curved class (and was also Samsung). I was just wondering if it would be curved as much as the picture seems to suggest.

Was that Nexus curved? How did I miss that?

Now that I think about it, I think one of the Sony phones might have been curved, too.

Maybe it'll be the first curved glass design on a screen larger than 4". EITHER way, it'll be exciting to see what Google has cooked up. I hope they got Samsung to give it a little better build quality...I'm not a fan of their plastic phones.

Come on phone nerds. Come up with an easy way to root and some nice roms for my bionic! Jeez.

XDA and Cyanogen haven't done it yet? Did Moto lock the bootloader on that phone?

XDA has some way to root it, but there aren't any good ROMs out there yet.

Yep, bootloader is still locked. Which doesn't necessarily rule out ROMs and Root has already been achieved. Only thing it cuts off atm is possibility of messing w/ the kernel.

What are the pros of a curved screen? I don't get it...

Well the Nexus S made claims of the contour screen being more comfortable when held against your head/face, which kind of makes sense. I guess it might also give you a little bit better hold (coupled w/ a ridge on the back) for typing on the screen. That one wasn't really curved enough to really notice a huge difference either way, just a fancy touch.

Gotcha. Thanks.

Rofl, I remember when I finally got one of those like 1 1/2 years after they'd actually been released. It was a solid phone, but I liked my Env2 a lot moar as a feature phone.
