What does an ideal intro look like for the folks wanting to ditch the bike? Beyond “whatever Forbes likes”?

Isn’t that the whole reason for a marketing department? To come up with these ideas so us rubes don’t have to?

There are a ton of basketball team intros around, and there are definitely some dope ones out there that don’t involve a motorcycle and inflatables

If Forbes wants it, sure. If he doesn’t, then can it. That was a skip/Dino culture thing, forced onto [Redacted] along with their assistants and Manning probably didn’t notice.

FIFY

im against most forms of the cheesy nostalgia (very much against tie dyes), but i do like the motorcycle as part of the deacon persona. i do find the shots of the open the gate person riding the back of the motorcycle at football games can look silly though.

Jesus Christ.

Stop trying to make fetch a thing again, Rafi

Have some fucking pride in yourself.

DV7, whatever your inclination is, do the opposite. We all know your track record.

Buzz at GT rides an old car, Chief Osceola rides a horse, and the Deacon rides a motorcycle. It’s perfect - there’s nothing to dislike about it. What do you want him to do, just walk in like some kind of a-hole like the Blue Devil?

This is like complaining about his top hat. “Well in my opinion, the Deacon should wear a beret.” C’mon.

It really isn't. The top hat has actually been around long enough to be a tradition. The motorcycle hasn't been around nearly long enough to say "this is just what the Deacon does"

I agree that I love it for football, because there is more ground to cover so they can actually drive the motorcycle. But on a basketball court when he's just walking it in it looks pretty dopey.

Buzz at GT doesn't drive an old car on the basketball court, and Chief Osceola doesn't ride a horse on the basketball court. Just do a dope court projection and call it a day. Those are way cooler than a slow walking motorcycle and some inflatable men.

I agree. I think they can have the person open the gate and then get out of the way or do something else. But the "motorcycle Deacon" (guy who knows how to ride it well) should be alone on the chopper, instead of a duo meandering around the field at super slow speed so the generally older person on the back doesn't fall off.

GT and FSU can’t do that for basketball because it’s not feasible. The Deacon on the motorcycle is. What other college mascot rides a motorcycle? It’s unique and a perfect part of his persona.

There are about 100 people in the world that don’t like motorcycle, and 99 are on these boards (plus coach K).

Agreed.

Keep it! My enduring image of Arnie was him riding onto the field on the motorcycle.....

GO DEACS!

Which is why we keep it around. To me it's unique and cool. Just because it hasn't been around since 1950, doesn't mean it can't be a tradition. It's kind of like saying the same thing about the announcer at the football games saying "Wake" and letting the crowd say "Forest" after a 1st down. I like stuff like that. Just my .02.

Set the whole court on fire during intros, sacrifice somebody from Greensboro, post a hostage video of the ref’s kids.

Keep it for football.

Can it for basketball*.

*Bring it out when we host Duke just because it pisses K off. Rev it multiple times in front of Duke bench during said introductions.

Retire it, then bring it back only for K and do revs in front of the Duke bench during intro

This is the correct answer.

These are all the right answers.

Anything that pisses off K should be kept. In fact, it should be revved up outside his locker room for thirty minutes before the game and during halftime.

I think I would still be all into the motorcycle and tie dyes intro if we hadn't sucked so bad for an entire decade. Like if we had kept up our level of play that we had from 1990-2010, where we were either middle of the pack and competitive or competing for the top of the conference, I would still love it. But after 10 years of sucking, those intros just felt embarrassing every time. So now I associate them more with that "why the fuck are we doing all this when we all know we are terrible" feeling rather than the feeling I had when Skip and Dino were coaching.

I think it'd be great if we could start this new era with a new kind of intro, something that is still unique to Wake but different.
