It does happen. There’s a much heavier burden on maf not to dumbtell than civs. You’ve gotta not dumb tell and not dikstep and also balance separation with bussing and not being obvious. It’s just a harder game to play. In recent games civs have wrecked because they were very good at clearing themselves and this game they didn’t have as many chances to do that.

I think a large part of this as well is that without being able to claim your role the focus was more on the play.
 
We made a conscious effort to try to hit civs as mafia too, and that probably ultimately hurt us.

We pivoted when we hit Numbers because he was playing a different game, but he happened to be a vanilla civ.
 
this game is meant to be a fun and an escape from real life so I don't want to be the guy who makes others not have fun. I still had fun just watching the last game that i didn't participate in.

I thought the mafias played well off of each other for the most part too, which helped both our chances.

and bc if a civ does it, it has a clearing effect, which is bad and dumb but not game breaking

if maf does it, it has a clearing effect, which is bad and dumb and game breaking

so long as neither are intentional, neither are unsporting

This is why I missed it. I thought I’d successfully rb’d that night. I even went so far as to tell the mafchat “great call,guys” before I kept pushing a dead civ as dirty in the game thread.

Also, I really thought numbers was dirty.

To explain the third rule, each mafia had an off day roleblock (sorry, JTP), an off day vig hit, and two goons. I let players in chatzy sort out the roles with a deadline of 1 hour before N1. I also had a preset listing if they did not come to an agreement. Mafia 1 changed roles around, while Mafia 2 went with the preset.

I think we should try RNG with no OT. It's effectively the same (strategy wise), without a moving night stop that can cause accidental modkills for night posting. I picked this up from the world championship olympics mafia fucks, but it's standard there.

Feel free to policy lynch me as appropriate. I'd do the same to you. However in my defense for this game, I didn't know I was in the game, that there was a game, until 10:45 Tuesday morning. And yep I never caught up from that godawful nonsense overnight before dying. I'm okay with that.

i might start every game voting for dv7, but that's a different matter altogether

Sorry... I was told to auto sign you up, and I did send you a message on the Terps board as well. Speaking of which, apparently I signed up over there in 2004. That means I've been playing mafia off and on for over 16 years. Fuck me.
