If you weren't making like 25 different arguments, some of which you are actually arguing against yourself on multiple threads, then it would be easier to have conversations with you. I'll try again, though.

It's on white people to change - absolutely, but, beyond platitudes, what does that mean? Probably more solidarity organizing and continued work to mitigate institutional racism in process and outcome. It probably also means not supporting candidates whose political careers include doing a lot of intentional or accidental damage to poor communities of color. In particular, not supporting prosecutors as politicians and mass incarceration architects would go a long way in terms of cleansing politics of perspectives on policing (not to mention the thin blue line) that are extremely detrimental to communities of color. Not supporting candidates that have had contentious relationships with communities of color in their constituencies also might be a good idea for white people. Listening to voices of POC communities and activist/advocacy groups before making decisions such as nominations, announcing endorsements, etc. would also go a long way to lifting up these communities.

I would start with stop killing black people and letting people get away with killing black people.

Yep. He was specifically talking about Amy Cooper but that was a shitty way to make his point. If there's anything that unites white people on race is their love of calling other white people racist without turning the lens on themselves.

What latest scandalous cable news scandal does this refer to? Van Jones hasn't mattered in on-the-ground politics in over a decade.

Kory posted it about an hour ago in this thread. Not a scandal just an interview.

Van Jones = not crew

Love this. Trump done pissed on Taylor Swift.

Okay, I definitely agree with that, which I clearly articulate in the post you quoted but evidently never read. That's precisely why I'm against prosecutors as politicians - and I don't vote for them for political positions or judgeships - as a matter of principle. Nobody I know is killing black people, but a lot of white people I know protest killing black people and the institutional structures (and actors) that kill and discriminate against black people. I feel like that's an approach that supports these shared principles at the ballot box and in civil society.

Related question: are you going to be upset when former California Attorney General and longtime "letting cops get away with killing black people" advocate Senator Kamala Harris gets the VP nomination?

So do you disagree that our chance for nonviolent change starts at the ballot box? I feel like you're just arguing to argue.

I think any argument you make for electoralism as a solution is incomplete without you acknowledging the political and cultural gatekeeping that prevents major change agents from being nominated and elected. Until people at the ballot box start to take risks and have faith, they're going to get the same status quo and failed reforms.

""But people all across this country are enraged and rightly so," Biden said. "Every day African-Americans go about their lives with [the] constant anxiety and trauma of wondering 'Will I be next?' Sounds like an exaggeration, but it's not. These tragedies, these injustices cut at the very heart of our most sacred of beliefs — that all Americans, equal in rights and in dignity, are part of an ingrained systemic cycle of racism and oppression that throughout every part of our society."

The former vice president continued, "We need to make sure justice is real for the Floyd family, that the protections and the rule of law are real for every American, that officers in the Floyd case must be held accountable, including with the FBI investigation and independent Department of Justice civil rights investigation."

"If we're not committed as a nation, with every ounce of purpose in our beings — not just to binding up this wound in hope that somehow the scab once again will cover things over — but to treat the underlying injury, we're never going to eventually heal," Biden said."

FIFY (I hope?)

Did you see this one?

lol, fuck Biden and this bullshit. He's as culpable as anyone in the conditions he laments.

Biden can speak honey all day, but he's *enacted* vinegar his entire career.

Yes. Winner take all in majority districts is the biggest gate keeping issue in structural politics.

I didn't post it. I said I agree with it.

Whatever Chris posted doesn't load for me.

I took Jones' comments to be critical of those who don't think race plays a role in politics - he literally calls out "post-race, colorblind" dems. You don't agree?

Third degree murder charges plus manslaughter. I thought they’d start at second degree but third degree in Minnesota covers depraved indifference

Then Bernie must be culpable too. He voted for the crime bill.

In fact, Bernie is more culpable for voting with the NRA so many times. He even voted against the Brady Bill.

They can still upgrade the charges at a later date according to several lawyers.

I've been mostly avoiding the news and this board for the last week or two because it makes me depressed and angry, mainly because I believe this country is fucked beyond repair.

That being said this shit is insane, but not remotely surprising. Yang's tweet below really nailed it for me. The public backlash of anger and violence was overdue. Racially and economically this country is so fucking crooked and backwards its really hard to comprehend. And what makes it worse is that our leaders to try to pretend that it is not.

I don't know how we come back from this. There's going to be a lot of the blood the next couple of years. The non-ruling class have been getting manhandled for too long. Systematic racism and class warfare will be rebuked in the streets, not at the ballot.
