F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

FIFY

they believe what they wanna believe

What do you believe about this sailor?

The protests, the systemic racism, the continued "miscarriage" of justice that disproportionately impacts people of color?

If you disagree then how do you think protests should be made? Clearly you don't agree that Kaep's protest was "proper", but it was 100% a peaceful protest.

De Blasio hasn't been great during all this but he's terrified of NYPD because of shit like this

If any group comes out of this looking bad it is going to be the police. In several places it was the police who escalated the violence. Probably so they can get new tanks and body armor next year.

I didn't realize how many needle dick blood thirsty scumbags wore the blue bars. And if we're being honest just think about the kind of people that becomes police these days, the ones you knew growing up, and maybe its not thats surprising.

I've lost a lot of respect for the police in the last few days. Never had a problem with them before.

I agree with lots of this, but also sadly there are many people who couldn't leave well enough alone after 12+ hours of protests yesterday. People who insist on staying out till 3 AM and getting right up within a few feet of the cops in an effort to antagonize are making a poor choice too, in my opinion.

There were so many peaceful, well conducted protests yesterday (here in Charlotte for example), but everyone who stayed out late allowed looters to run wild and caused those peaceful protests to be pushed back from the front page

Props to Raleigh protesters for one of the best chants I’ve heard.

A friend pointed out that white supremacists including one with a rocket launcher were just chilling at Subway a few weeks ago in the same area.

As provocative as the white supremacists were a few weeks ago, their "protest" didn't result in almost all of downtown Raleigh being destroyed. Sadly, since NC is an open carry state, they weren't doing anything illegal. The police handled this situation well.

Did the police handle this situation well? Raleigh last night.

Because police didn’t provoke them. Probably because the white supremacist didn’t have a problem with the confederate monument.

Makes you wonder why this one turned into what it is - almost like police handle protests from primarily black people and protests from primarily white people differently.

You're telling on yourself.

A big thing with this also is that actual white supremacists and other anarchists are using these peaceful protests as a time to loot and riot, and make the peaceful protests look bad.

If he is compromised and can't serve the people of New York City properly, he needs to resign.

In KC, some boogaloo boys in Hawaiian shirts showed up and one of them got thrown in the fountain.

I know they've been scattered throughout this thread, but can people re-post their police and prison abolition (and adjacent subjects) reading recommendations?

What do you think the police's reaction would be if several hundred, camo wearing, handgun strapped, assault weapon carrying black men marched in Raleigh would have been?

Compromised?

Yes. Compromised.

If he's unable to denounce and properly respond to the actions of the NYPD, to keep them from running their cars into crowds, to keep them from hiding their badges with tape, and to keep their leadership from acting out against him... He's got to go.

I saw a tweet this weekend that stated on average America trains their police officers for 19 weeks, where the average length of training time in Europe is around 2 years. No surprise that when you train somebody for 20% of the time most other countries do that you get bad results comparatively.
