F is for Fascism (Ferguson MO)

No Quarter = No Room

We kill you, no surrender. We will not provide you any quarter.

This is what Tom Cotton truly believes. That American soldiers should slaughter American citizens.

Even as an opinion piece, giving them a powerful platform legitimizes those opinions, how many times has an opinion pieces been posted here by conservatives as some form of proof. In this case you have the double effect of the power of a US senator coupled with the power of a large well respected newspaper to put out the idea that killing fellow citizens is somehow alright. Sure the crazies aren't going to read the NY times but what will happen is fringe sites will repost it, link to it, tweet about it, gloss over that it is an opinion and use it to justify their own feelings of hate.

I also like that the other opinion shared below are him legitimizing Trumps bullshit of trying to buy Greenland and why its a good idea. Just an absolute bootlicker.

Tom Cotton might run for president one day. I'm fine and dandy with him getting his Paleolithic opinion documented in a major media news publication.

Seemingly within hours of asking, LA mayor takes $150 mil from the budget of the LAPD and re-allocates it to the black community, to be disbursed immediately. Guess I'm wrong, looting seems to be a pretty damn smart thing to do.

Wow. Good for the community.

I know several police officers (they are dads on the baseball team I help coach) and they are good dudes. Two are HP police officers and one is a Sheriffs deputy up around the Danville Va area. The amount of bullshit those guys/gals have to put up with is unreal. I don't understand why anyone in this day and time would want to wear the uniform of a police officer but I respect the hell out of them (the good ones) for doing it. Cops that do stupid shit are the ones that make it that much harder for the good police officer to do his/her job which continues the circle of mistrust between the police and the black community. Hope things improve moving forward.

the Tool cover is also great. at the 2017 Christmas Jam in Asheville, Gov't Mule did a set of Zeppelin songs with Ann Wilson from Heart on vocals and they crushed it.

Phish does a killer version. I've seen other Warren Haynes Associated acts play it as well. I've also seen Ann and Nancy Wilson play it with Jason Bonham's Led Zeppelin Experience backing them. And with the Jimmy Page and The Black Crowes also.

Two final tweets for the night:

A history lesson about white fear of Black people:

I strongly recommend reading this tweet thread. A white person does a good job of explaining how much work has been done to convince white people to accept all kinds of negative stereotypes about black people.

It’s nice that many of you know police officers. However, a dad of one of your kid’s baseball teammates who is a nice guy at games could also support the use of excessive force on his job. It’s really offensive when white people think they have some innate ability to identify people who are “racist.”

He tweeted earlier about giving "no quarter" to protesters. Then he (rightfully) got called out for it. He backtracked and said "no quarter" means give them a hard time/don't be nice/be harsh. Sure thing buddy, a former infantry officer and Army Ranger doesn't know what "no quarter" means. And for those who don't know what it means, it means kill everyone on the opposing side in a battle, even after they have surrendered.

TBF, it's possible the Tom Cotton used a term that he didn't know the meaning of. Sort of like Ted Cruz's "targeted carpet bombing". I've been playing "stupid or malevolent?" quite a bit these past four years.

can't wait for Bedbug's next column about the Twitter mob canceling the NYT and how that is in fact the most dangerous group in America

haha andrew sullivan was on twitter like "wow, triggered much? all he did was say we should use the military as an occupying force in its own country to control the populace. snowflakes these days."

these are our pundits

I could maybe buy this if Cotton wasn't a Harvard educated infantry officer and ranger who deployed to both Iraq and Afghanistan. He has to know what that means and if the term was misused it was incredibly sloppy work on his part.

Perhaps the most absurd part of Cotton's argument is that the US military can just deter people from acting against it with a show of force. The US lost in Vietnam and Afghanistan and it's hard to call Iraq a win. The US military is actually quite bad at quelling rebellions among populations that have nothing to lose and are willing to fight for their cause. They just kill people and encourage more people rise up. And that's what US policies have created in this country, people who are desperate for change and will fight for it.
