Better Call Saul, The Mafia Game. Indies Win! Gooner, GAT and Duff

I think the reason the civs have won so often is
1) everyone claims
2) dumb tells

I have no idea how to deal with the dumb tells, so I decided to deal with the claiming. I apologized to numbers b/c I got a little frustrated with him and then he went and started talking about Mrs Nguyen and hinting he could be her, which prompted the angle shooting PM. We had just had an exchange where I told he he could not say he was her. In fairness, I hadn't read 75% of the posts because I couldn't keep up. That's not on him or anyone else. That's on me.

let’s take dumb tells. The majority of people’s “dumbtells” this season I don’t actually think are actually dumbtells

Like people doing ISO’s or pulling threads are bound to make mistakes (mafia and civ alike). It’s just gonna happen. And raging about it is stupid

Same with “dumbtells” on rules. How about everybody just read the fucking rules. You don’t, we kill you.

but the dumbtell rage is stupid. I can point to 80-90% of the group playing and point to a place where they “dumbtold” this season. And none of it was an intentional move by mafia to clear themselves

Oh and before i forget - the loooooong posts analyzing every player are 100% my civ game. I usually wait longer in the game to do it but i was absent for big chunks of the early game and was catching up so figured i'd put them out there.

I will probably die as a civ a few games in a row for doing it now. I haven't been maf in years but back in the day i tried to play maf roles like Da (and failed miserably).

Its also super-easy to create those things in a game with multiple factions.

jeez the mafia teams were rather imbalanced and then one cunt no-showed entirely. Well played by us to even have a chance.

Creative game but some of this stuff was impossible and just made the game hard on the players and the mod. Restrictions on revealing rarely work well and even the most ethical players will accidentally "angle-shoot" which is in quotes because it's not really that. Tip of the cap for effort and creativity though.

Agree, your mafia was not as strong and played very well and it sucked you had a no show. I should have tapped in raise for the role. Again, I wrote this more as show fanboi than as perfect mafia balance guy. I thought you played a very difficult role really well.

As far as the reveal restrictions, I get what people are saying. I likely needed help and a better guideline for what could and couldn't be said but it's fun to try new things.

I never lied in those messages at all. Toogs fed me the Da thing which i have no idea where that came from. Was just passing it along.

And @gooner, that is, i believe, my first-ever successful fake claim.

As I said to gooner, I questioned if the info you were getting was reliable. And tried to figure out what move worked out best for the indy side.

Why did you want an ID?

another reason was I realized really quickly I was aligned and/or tied to either a mafia or Indy. So I was either a huge -ev to civs or was going to be recruited/have something happen that told me I wasn’t civ. As stated previously, I ended up deciding I needed to get rid of my -ev role

Thanks Parlay for a wild-ass and really fun game. This was the most complicated thing i've seen. Obviously my role was fun to play but there was a lot of really creative stuff in this game.

I'll let you know if it was worth a divorce. At least I should be able to get alimony. :cam:

Mental game: If when I was recruited like 4 days ago I come out and say Gat is Mike and Duff and Gooner are either Fring or indies, does knight have a chance to win? Do the civs win?

I do think this was probably knights best shot, and certainly civs best shot

I think the reveal stuff makes sense on its face, it just proved really difficult to abide by (RIP rommy).

QT this was the first game where I legit wasn't sure about your alignment. It's normally so black and white with you when you're a civ and when you're not but I just didn't see it and then you were dead.

I think it threw everyone that I came in under attack with zero posts, got completely pissed off, defended two people, and basically said fuck it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Good strategy by bym and toogs to attack me and eagles before either of us had even showed up and then come in again the second I responded.

I really felt like from the outside - and I haven’t been playing as much- that there are definite power dynamics and it is frustrating to be outside those circles. Several of you are talking about Boston’s vig hit and it buying another round... not blinding killing manning day one and trying to lynch a mafia person does the same thing. Quite honestly, he isn’t going to change his play based on you killing him day 1 for a few games. He’s still going to do what he’s going to do. Townie isn’t really in any of the power circles, he tends to think for himself. He tried very hard to make a connection between you and Duff and leave some links. Despite all he did in this game NO ONE looked at a thing he said after he died. He played as close to a perfect game as you can and you guys are all giving him props and when he was dead, he was dead. That was it. Kind of why I stopped playing, I was really frustrated the last game I played for that very reason. If you aren’t in a circle, you may get listened to here or there but that’s about it.

I came back to play for parlay and immediately got annoyed by bym of all people calling me out for not posting and then the inner circle’s self-righteous and pointless policy lynch of manning. So no, I wasn’t trying to find civs or mafia other than obviously pointing out bym and toogs were dirty as shit for what they were doing. Then when the next day started with people immediately jumping down Duff’s throat it was just more of the same shit and I wasn’t having it. It wasn’t exactly in the civs best interest to just follow the leader like lambs to slaughter... unless the people doing the leading were the cops. So I can see why you had trouble figuring out my role and why toogs and bym decide to just kill me and get me out of the game.

i mean no lie we were bitching about M2 being more OP than we were.

odd RB + vig + limited BPV vs GF + even role cop + banker

Its imbalanced when you factor in that we can influence M2 but before that? Im not sure.

TY. Props to PH for playing with a role restriction and having fun with it. I thought you played great. Nonny had a different view of his role restriction. Unfortunately, you didn't get much of a chance to hunt for Saul.

Thanks. I'm not a big fan of role restrictions like that but I did what I could. I already made peace with Tejas in the chat because I think he caught the brunt of my mandatory posts. Sorry to anybody else who got confused or pissed off by those posts.

It would suck to have Nonny's role, but I get it.

One challenge to a BCS themed game is that the two mafia are obvious and apparent, but most of the "civs" in the show have no idea the cartels even exists. It wouldn't make sense for Howard or Chuck or other characters to have powers against the mafia. But it would have made more sense for Howard and Chuck to investigate for Jimmy/Saul to counter his power. But I'm not mad. I'm glad there was a game where an Indy had a legit chance to win.

This is interesting and thank you for posting it. It was obvious to me that Townie had a great point and i was working pretty continuously to turn the conversation away from that - both in chatzy and in the thread. I thought townie played a great game and i 100% would've have listened if i was civ. He was obviously clear early on and i said so in the thread when i was trying to chuck boston (i think) under the bus.

We killed eagles on N3 because we absolutely 100% did not want him having an overnight to read the thread and unlock it.

To me, a dumbtell is almost always one of two things. Either not realizing that someone is dead, or a misunderstanding of specific rules in the game.

Every player should pay attention to who has been lynched and who has died at night. It is the only definitive information given to everyone during the game. Not paying attention to it means you aren't actually engaging with the game, and that sucks.

Each game usually has some specific rules, be it overtime rules, game setup, claim restrictions, etc. Everyone should know these rules, at least by Day 2. Sometimes these rules may not be clear, but if they are clear then misstating them qualifies as a dumbtell.

I'd like to address this point. I wanted to say something in game, but I was mafia, so...

I like Tim. I enjoy when Tim plays. Up until this game, I tried to defend him from getting voted out because he hadn't shown. When someone suggested voting out Tim because he barely posted, I tried to point out there were other players who hadn't posted at all. It wasn't about anyone being a traditional quiet.

I'm kinda done defending him not being there in hopes that he'll show up and play a full game.

The call-out was 100% not mafia. The not explaining it after was.

To be fair - he did have a real life situation. he mentioned it in chatzy.

Isn't this the point? If mafia did it to clear themselves at a higher rate it wouldn't matter. Since they don't, any "dumbtells" end up clearing people.

I said this I think last week or the week before in one of the chats but most of the stuff that people think are "dumbtells" and therefore clearing are not at all. Again I bring up you in the Stephen King game where if you were mafia 2 you would know how many could be left alive but just didn't get it in the thread as an example of something that is an actual dumbtell and clearing. When you did that, there was no possible way you could be maf 2 in that game and since maf 1 was eliminated, it was clearing. Most other stuff is just that people don't read or skim stuff and miss things. It will never go away.
