Better Call Saul, The Mafia Game. Indies Win! Gooner, GAT and Duff

Yeah and I agree. Maybe dumbtells isn’t the right word but when people come in and say something like “oh I didn’t know the OT rules” on day five, I think these are ridiculous situations (manning as mafia cough cough). Either you aren’t paying attention or you’re trying to come across as if you aren’t mafia and chatting with people in chatzy.

Maybe I’m just angry at Manning’s failure to meaningfully play still. And that’s something that’s on me.

Isn't this the point? If mafia did it to clear themselves at a higher rate it wouldn't matter. Since they don't, any "dumbtells" end up clearing people.

it’s the opposite. People on here would burn the place to the ground if mafia did it intentionally

my point is since it has happened by multiple people whether mafia or civ, leaning is stupid and so is raging about it

people may disagree and I might be wrong.

part of my frustration is there were a few “dumbtells” mine included, that were called out. There were another couple that were the same, if not worse, and nobody mentions them. I feel like they are weaponized by a select few when they want to and when they dont

I mean Knight dumbtold like fuck this game and was maf2. :couch

I said this I think last week or the week before in one of the chats but most of the stuff that people think are "dumbtells" and therefore clearing are not at all. Again I bring up you in the Stephen King game where if you were mafia 2 you would know how many could be left alive but just didn't get it in the thread as an example of something that is an actual dumbtell and clearing. When you did that, there was no possible way you could be maf 2 in that game and since maf 1 was eliminated, it was clearing. Most other stuff is just that people don't read or skim stuff and miss things. It will never go away.

this is what I’m trying to say but gooner said it better. He now speaks for me. Gooner is my friend again

I guess I shouldn't have bread crumbed numbers. Assuming that's what got me killed.

I found Tim the night I died, but I think this game was nearly impossible for civs to win once the Indy faction was formed.

Juice, why did you investigate me? No talking my way out of that one. Well done.

And I’m a shit mafia teammate. I bailed on my boys after I died. Sorry bym.

not only did i live that long, juice and i were pretty fucking effective cops, our angel played well, and civs still didn't have a shot

how many people ended up anti-town by game end?

In the end it was 18 vs 12 or 17 vs 13 depending on Huell (who thought he was a civ and finished the game as a civ but spend some time unwittingly on the indy squad). The game began 20 vs 5 vs 5 with cross hits possible. There were none. I don't think (other than Knight) the indy hit mafia at night either. So the civs got a little unlucky as well on that. Having mason cops with an angel (who could self-protect once) is pretty strong. There were also 3 or 4 civs that had the ability to survive a lynch or hit if they used it correctly (required luck but it was there). I also got shit from gooner that you could discover Kim but PH (chuck) was only looking for his brother, so I think that was correct.

Do I think it was perfectly balanced? No. Did I want 2-3 more civs? Yes.

Did I think it would be nice to have a game where an indy stood a legit chance and I think I was more focused on that than perfect balance. As toogs said, results oriented but it worked. You and juice never got to use it but I had things set up that it would have been unlikely not to find each other by night 3 --- or 4 at the latest. I think it's a fair criticism but I think ultimately, a cross hit or two and maybe you are in this.

JTP had a lot of chances to find the GF. When he finally did, he got whacked the same night and as GAT will confess, he wrested with killing you over JTP there because he knew Saul's hit.

Again, I hope you enjoyed. I know I twisted your arm to play. I know everyone wants to win and I'm sorry for those that didn't feel like they had a chance.

I would never call them sore losers but I can't be responsible for what gooner, gat and duff say. :couch:

I didn't mean for it to come across as giving you shit. Townie getting Duff was 100% my fault, he never should have been alive to reveal that. I just thought it was weird because I think Juice confirmed at some point that stuff was coming back as "mafia/not mafia" and we weren't mafia. I came to realize later that that was before an indy faction exists so it made sense that it would morph into "town/not town" but I was slow all game so I apologize again for my idiocy.

I deleted my post I had queued up before I died but I essentially had mafia completely solved, would've just needed to find the indy. Unfortunately had no idea the Indy was a faction of Indy's lol

Juice played well, but Townie was outstanding. Probably his best game ever, pending mod results on the other game still going on.

Yeah, they were both great. I was really scared the cop/mason thing was going to be too powerful but that was one of the few mechanics that I really liked. Juice hitting a fullcourt heave at the buzzer night 1 was absolutely shocking to me. Here, hit a 1 out of 28 shot. Townie did a great job of staying hidden after juice died. I thought both were great. Haven't played with juice much but I now believe the hype.

I really felt like from the outside - and I haven’t been playing as much- that there are definite power dynamics and it is frustrating to be outside those circles. Several of you are talking about Boston’s vig hit and it buying another round... not blinding killing manning day one and trying to lynch a mafia person does the same thing. Quite honestly, he isn’t going to change his play based on you killing him day 1 for a few games. He’s still going to do what he’s going to do. Townie isn’t really in any of the power circles, he tends to think for himself. He tried very hard to make a connection between you and Duff and leave some links. Despite all he did in this game NO ONE looked at a thing he said after he died. He played as close to a perfect game as you can and you guys are all giving him props and when he was dead, he was dead. That was it. Kind of why I stopped playing, I was really frustrated the last game I played for that very reason. If you aren’t in a circle, you may get listened to here or there but that’s about it.

i think there are benefits and weaknesses to the power dynamics you're talking about that are just a part of the game being played in a relatively small community with a rotating cast of a few dozen people over a relatively short period of time

making somebody the "out" person by saying mean shit affects how they play, and i try to only dole it out to people i know can take it and otherwise use it sparingly or for a reaction

i was sad at how Rommy left the game and generally how he played but was especially frustrated that he told me i didn't know my ass from my face when i had things right in the redwing doofus round and then basically came back to the game ho hum and didn't really work with me and we were both civs. even gooner who was still yelling real loud any time i mentioned his name still had some back and forth.

for my gripes about balance and gameplay, credit to mods for trying to run an insanely complicated game. don't beat yourself up, mods.

If I ever get a hold of the asshole that wrote it and put me thru that torture, I'm gonna kick his ass. And GM has nothing to beat herself up about. She rescued a drowning man and got a sinking ship to shore.

i role-copped you the night before we hit you. Even after we knew you were the gf Hunter we almost didn’t hit you. We were choosing between you and townie. Ended up going with you and telling gooner to hit townie. He hit someone else instead.

Don't even feel a little bad, mods

Games that are different from the norm are great and makes people think differently not only in that game but future games as well. At least that's my opinion.

It won't always go great, but its awesome to try new things.

TY

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to deacvision7 again.

Juice, why did you investigate me? No talking my way out of that one. Well done.

You’re a good investigation. People who regularly make it to end game are worth more than people who are likely to get lynched.

Until the meta changes, a cop hit on Eaglez is worthless. Either he’s hit early or he’s mafia. Either Rommy gets hit early or he AAs. Same with a few more.

I mean, the indy faction essentially had almost full influence over Fringe mafia night actions once he found gat.

So I blame it on the dumbs in mafia 1 letting gat run the show.

Townie I just want to say that I never meant to come across like I was yelling at you and I apologize if it did. I was civ at the time and there were a bunch of better candidates to me so I genuinely didn't understand why I was even being considered by people and I interpreted you as being serious in going down that line. That's why I was trying to say votes for me were dumb without going full Nonny (which would have gotten me killed for sure). I truly just wanted to separate out who could be or couldn't be which mafias and then move forward based on the odds and I had a huge vote for dv7 that should have eliminated me from being considered maf 1. But it's hard to convey that when you yourself are the subject matter. I appreciate all who play the game and try to figure things out. I also march to the beat of my own drum and I don't mean for that to come across as a dick/asshole type vibe. So I'm sorry.
