2020 Presidential Election: Biden v. Trump

Shoo, you were a Warren supporter, no? I’m disappointed with her campaign and a lot of stuff she’s said and done since but I don’t really feel the need to still come dunk on her here. I wasn’t a fan of Pete or Kamala, but same deal. Bernie can’t hurt you anymore.

I always liked Bernie. I'm not out to get him, as I agree with him, here and in most things. My post was clearly not an attack on him, and you know that. So stop being obtuse. I'm glad mdmh was consistent.

I'm not sure where is the right place to discuss on the board, but Ezra Klein and Ta-Nehisi Coates had a really profound discussion about a lot of these topics.

The episode that I'm referring to is called "Why Ta-Nehisi Coates is hopeful."

Ezra's "Joe Biden is the control group of American politics" statement is same point I've been making here for awhile. His example of the Biden's unequivocal condemnation of the officers who killed George Floyd is on point.

Show me another gotcha post I've made. I will wait. You're just another triggeree.

You must have confused me with someone who is going to do all that boring research. But your vibe during this election cycle has definitely been to "stick it to the (progressive) libs".

Maybe it is a projection because you used to be more progressive and outspoken? IDK man. But that's been your schtick on here for awhile.

Bernie would have hurt and everyone had he won the nomination. Trump would have beaten him and held the Senate.

Even your own second chart showed only a 20% approval rate for the term "socialism".

Jesus, I wanted Warren to get the nomination. It doesn't get much more progressive than that. I've been critical of the lunacy of the crew and certain bros with roses by their names on Twitter.

I don’t care if you call him the antichrist after November. I’d prefer the progressive wing work on encouraging and getting people excited to vote so the guy who is literally an existential threat to our country doesn’t get another term.

I'm gonna do that with Booker in KY instead against McGrath and then McConnell. Only so much energy and time and money in this life.

Looks like Bern doesn't want to defund police and instead wants to give them more funding. I guess he just fucking sold out every protester on the street and can fuck off into the sun?

It really doesn't matter, and I'm with MDMH on this issue, the left is very disappointed with Sanders on this. But if your larger point was instead that nobody is perfect on these issues, and it's wrong to attack Biden, I do think there are some excellent examples of politicians doing the right thing in response to protests. Maybe not on the national stage or in the spotlight, but out there. Bernie's name probably just doesn't belong on this thread anymore. He certainly won't be running for President again after 2020.

I've long called him "the default candidate" which I think is roughly the same idea. Good link, Strick.

I'm not saying its wrong to attack Biden, but I do think there's room for more than one opinion on solutions to this issue and, while I agree with providing more funding to the social programs discussed as part of the defund the police movement, I also agree with Bernie and Biden that more funding should go to the police to revamp, retrain, etc. -- similarly to what I've been reading about the Camden PD. And that's part of the reason why I wanted to tax the fuck out of the super rich with Warren's plan, so we can have a why not both solution here.

Shoo, the answer to cops killing people by kneeling on their necks for 10 minutes and smiling, or using chokeholds that have been banned for 15 years prior, isn't "retraining", whatever the hell "retraining" even means. They aren't pepperspraying peaceful prot3sters from moving police cars from a lack of training.. Reponding to this crisis by giving the police even. more. money. and telling them to fix themselves by taking some classes is, to be blunt, fucking stupid.

Why would they need more funding to do that?

Note: Townie nailed it.

Is the infomercial voice over guy on purpose? Like did they do a survey and find it makes old white people that sit at home and watch that shit feel more comfortable?

Day 1 of Police Reform Class

Read some of the criticisms of what is going on in Camden. It's not a great model. The history of reform in this country, with police and prisons, is to throw money at a problem and hope that it will fix it. That has never worked. That is why engaging in abolitionist theory is so important.

telling them to fix themselves by taking some classes

Is that the proposal here?

I'm reading about what happened in Camden - seems to have significantly improved the situation. What's your beef with that approach?

I still haven't seen a satisfactory answer on why a continuing to exist police department with no changes and with less money will help the situation.
