2022 Atlanta Braves Season Thread: off season decisions loom

We're in really good shape to make the playoffs. Our 9 AL East games left are six against Boston and three against Baltimore. The Marlins have to play the Yankees Toronto and Tampa Bay

Well, the top two teams in each division make the playoffs this year (and then two Wild Cards beyond that); so, with the Nats, Mets and Phils throwing up on themselves, agree that the Braves are a lock to make the playoffs.

This is kind of annoying. Waters down an already bizarre regular season.

Snitker might be the worst in-game manager in the MLB. About to blow a 10 run lead in 3 innings. Confident the odds on that are like 1/100,000

Milone really made an impression today. It was not a good impression, but an impression nonetheless.

Sounds like we might be front runners for Clev which I have mixed feelings on given his stupidity & failure to take responsibility earlier this season. He’s got 2 years left of team control so I’d be pretty ok with giving up Waters+ for him but I can’t overlook his actions earlier this season.

Is Clevinger a good, responsible guy? Probably not. Would his addition to the Braves radically improve their WS chances this year and the following two? Definitely, almost regardless of who is in the trade on our side.

So it depends on whether you value the first part as a fan of a team enough to not make the deal. I’d do it, assuming they’ve done enough due diligence to believe he won’t be a major clubhouse problem moving forwards.

Clevinger to Padres. Hello Lance Lynn? Wouldn't be as excited, but still a major upgrade.

We will probably win the division again and Snitker won’t go anywhere but some pretty bad managing in game 2. I cannot believe he went to Weigel in a 1 run game and then brought on Culberson.

We need Will Smith to not give up a jack every appearance.

Took Freddie a decade to get his first GS & now he has two in three days.

Interesting stat line today for Freeman - 4 ribbies and 6 LOB. Good to see Acuna have another game without striking out.

Braves place Max Fried on the injured list. Amazing how many starting pitchers the Braves have been injured or opted out or have otherwise fallen out of favor:

- Fried
- Soroka
- Folty
- Hamels
- Hernandez
- Newcomb

The rotation this year was supposed to be:

1. Soroka
2. Fried
3. Folty
4. Hamels
5/6. Newcomb/Felix

with Wright, Touki, Wilson all get spot starts. The number of those guys currently not in the rotation for injuries/bad pitching is absolutely staggering.

Maybe time to change pitching coaches over the Winter? Injuries are one thing but inconsistency drives me crazy.

This is only Kranitz’s second year with the Braves, and he is pretty highly regarded. I think the problems with Wright and Touki are more a feature of young pitchers that were drafted based on their stuff and struggling with command. The fact that Folty and Newcomb have struggled with consistency is much more concerning though, with the volume of MLB experience they have.

Braves activate Albies; Camargo sent to the alternate training site.

Why not send Hechavarria? That dude is a liability.

Is this serious? It’s for defensive purposes where he is head over heels better than Camargo.

On another note, I’m starting to seriously worry we may miss the playoffs entirely.
