Chat Thread: Be better than the Gap, guys

I just went by my local liquor store. There was a sign on it that said “temporarily closed due to Covid infection.” That’s disconcerting.

The now outdated joke i used to tell:

Arrested development: show about dumb people for smart people
Big bang theory: show about smart people for dumb people
Always Sunny: show about bad people for bad people

Bill Burr’s monologue was pretty good. I didn’t watch last night but have only watched his monologue on YouTube. Any good skits?

Booze or burgers would be a good chat thread debate. Which one would you rather give up? Other alcohol and beef are still in play.

This isn’t even close. Our bedtime burger gobbling POTUS would be one of the few that chose the latter.

Definitely some good skits. Really enjoyed weekend update and the Sam Adams commercial.

The “unprecedented” sketch and the Sam Adams commercial were the best ones. The sports broadcast was good as well. You could tell Burr was active in the writers room.

Comedians who can act are typically strong guests. I’d like to see JB Smoove host. He’s in that same vein.

Yeah. Burr excels at making political incorrect jokes about political correctness and social issues without being offensive. The monologue, mafia sketch, The Blitz were good examples of that.

Heard some anecdotes recently-ish about jb's time working at snl. The gist was brilliant pitch man for his skits but they were so specific it was really hard turning them into a full blown skit. E.g. criminal so evil he needed two eye patches, first football player to smack a teammate's ass, urine detective (his... sense of taste... helps him solve crimes) you can find clips of him talking about them. Seth Myers, Stern probably others.

The millenials are still outraged

I thought SNL was solid last night. Jack White stole the show for me - he was on fire last night. I loved both of his performances.

Those look like sketches Chappelle or Key & Peele could do in their sleep.

It would have been years ago and the writers at snl could not make it work. I feel like I recall key and peele actually did the ass slap one with a guy that did it waaaay to much.

Chat Thread: Your phone comes with an on/off switch.

Yeah. They got two sketches out of slap ass.

The writers at Key & Peele, Chappelle, and In Living Color and MadTV for that matter were better at absurdist humor than SNL.
