2020 Presidential Election: Biden v. Trump

Fuck the Pubs as a staff, political party and as a motherfucking crew
And if you want to be down with Republicans, then fuck you too

Oh hell yeah.

Just another sign things are slipping for the POTUS. Outdrawn in initial TV ratings review. Also more youtube streaming for Biden than Trump.

LOL. Trump was really counting on a ratings win. I bet he'll claim NBC sandbagged him or that the ratings are biased.

No confusion, I realize '72 was a Nixon landslide win and it still amazes me how many people put their heads down in the sand and pulled that lever despite the strong evidence of his deceit, corruption and disdain for civil liberties.
Plus the McGovern campaign, if memory serves me, was so poorly run that it never really got its message out clearly.
I also think the presence of social media amplifies the hatred for Trump; but in my crowd, Nixon was about as despicable as they come.

McGovern's campaign was a disorganized mess and he would have lost anyway, but it certainly didn't help when his running mate, Missouri Sen. Thomas Eagleton, admitted that he had gone through electroshock therapy for depression years earlier, which led to a round of negative publicity ("shock therapy!"), Eagleton resigned from the ticket, and McGovern had to pick another running mate mid-campaign (it was JFK and RFK brother-in-law Sargent Shriver.) I did like the response of a Democratic pol (can't remember the name) who, when asked about this development, said "At least we know that ours got help, what about theirs?" LOL.

I disliked Nixon quite a bit and voted for McGovern in 1972. Nixon was hated by many but the level of hatred, animosity, and vitriol directed at Trump is far beyond anything Nixon faced.

I think it's certainly more visible.

The Nixon/McGovern election was the last one in which I was too young to vote. As I recall though, Nixon was not hated as much as he was considered to be a liar. People both hate Trump and think he is a liar.

Nixon and Trump are pretty different flavors of corruptions -- political power versus financial enrichment

ehhhh, nixon far more competent than trump and thus his corruption went a lot further imo

I harbor no hate towards Nixon. He signed the National Environmental Policy Act, the Endangered Species Act, the Clean Water Act, the Clean Air act and established NOAA. Globally some of the most important and enduring environmental protection legislation ever.

Won't really speculate individually as I'm not informed enough about nixon but I was mostly referring to the administration as a whole. there is no way as many people in the nixon administration were as deeply corrupt and using it for their own gains.

I'd highly recommend the book The Devil's Chessboard, which is about the Dulles brothers and the history of the CIA. The chapters on Nixon are illuminating. He sought political power like Trump seeks to enrich himself and his family, both with complete disregard for how many people they destroy along the way.

deaconson will check that one out at his local library branch as soon as he finishes the Curious George boxset

oh snap! Got me. Good one.

Anyone check up on the sombrero wearing coed the col was creeping on? Any missing persons in the area?

Very debatable. Nixon's dossier.

Presidential resignation
VP Resignation
40 government officials indicted or jailed
Top aides Haldeman & Erlichman resigned and jailed
Legal Counsel Dean resigned and jailed.
AD Mitchell Jailed
Colson, Special Counsel, jailed.
Security Director McCord, jailed.

It was ass ugly.

What's the Trump administration conviction tally thus far?

"Commander-in-Chief" by Demi Lovato. Great video. The lyrics pull no punches.

Here's a video for the song by The Lincoln Project.

[Chorus]
Commander in Chief, honestly
If I did the things you do
I couldn't sleep, seriously
Do you even know the truth?
We're in a state of crisis, people are dyin'
While you line your pockets deep
Commander in Chief, how does it feel to still
Be able to breathe, breathe?
Be able to breathe

Most of Nixon's stuff was all about the Watergate break-in and cover-up to help Nixon win the 1972 election. It was also "payback" for what Nixon regarded as the stolen election of 1960. Nixon wanted a really, really big win to stick it to those members of the press and others who he felt had trashed him during that campaign and the campaign in 1968. Nixon also was willing to do just about anything to keep a guy he felt was a communist out of the White House. Remember, Nixon was a politician who was profoundly influenced by the Joe McCarthy hunts for communists in the government.

Nixon and his henchmen weren't about the stealing of money out of the public treasury and using their public offices for personal gain. Trump and his cronies seem to feel that the presidency and the executive branch is simply a way to put money in their pockets. We will see how that plays out in the future.
