we also stupidly camped one night out in the bald hills area because it was so beautiful, but absolutely nothing to block the wind and the whole night the tent was smashed all over us

some faves:

- Pisgah National Forest, including Sliding Rock
- as a kid I really loved tubing Deep Creek in the Smokies
- Bear Island at Hammock's Beach State Park

it was really really pretty out there for sure.. weather wasn't too bad since it only rained at night so we got plenty of good chilling time + hiked on the AT some near the campground

we didn't see the huge horse ride :(


think i'm gonna try to plan a trip next year around actually doing the creeper trail while up there

Always had a soft spot for Pilot Mountain since I went there a lot as a kid and so close to campus for a quick getaway

lol hell no, followed TW out and that was the much easier path.. I'm still apalled my gps took me the other way in.. I'm pretty sure that easier route (we took out) was an alternative route with "similar ETA" too, which in reality was probably 10-15 minutes faster because I didn't have to worry about going 10 mph on a single track washed out dirt road
 
Hanging Rock is a pretty spectacular area, tbh. Tough to beat the stretch of the New River through Ashe and Alleghany, and the Great Dismal Swamp trails around Merchant's Millpond in Gates County are crazy beautiful as well. But for me Gorges and Dupont forest are the pinnacle of what NC has to offer from an outdoors perspective.
 
yeah Dupont is awesome, site of an old X-ray film factory. apparently my parents went there back in the 80s when he was a radiology resident at Wake. they used to host big social events for drs at the site and had a lodge and stuff.
 
the best part of NC is mid-summer halfway down the Dan next to your cooler tube with an open dadbeer and CCR playing on your waterproof bluetooth speaker.

I’d like to get more into camping and hiking but not sure I’m ready to do that with a two year old.

We’ve made it a priority to get outside more this year but it has been mostly limited to trails in the Atlanta area that are stroller accessible.
 
that or taking a very nice girl up to Pilot mountain 15 minutes before sunset and and you both watch day descend into twilight into night as the Blue Ridge wraps itself in darkness and the city lights take center stage

If you like this, please try the New. Exponentially prettier than the Dan. A lot wider and less ass to elbow crowded too.

I had a golf tournament this weekend. It was fun.

But my BH is pretty fuckin' damaged. Taco Bell twice over the weekend followed by overeating last night like WOAH. I had some extra time Sunday night, so I did a little of everything. First, I rolled a veggie sushi roll (app), then Crook's corner Shrimp n grits with argentinian prawns and button mushrooms, collard/turnip greens mix (bacon fat++); started with garlic bread but then I just smothered it in cheese and basil, chased with a fucking giant piece of coconut cream pie my wife made (rivals your mom's creampie).

I've shit three times today; none of them have been half-assed.
