2020 Carolina Panthers - New Season New Thread for 2021

Right now, Carolina is sitting on the 7th pick. You figure Lawrence, Fields and the Oregon OT will be off the board. The question is do you take Lance if he's there. I haven't seen BYU, but their QB is now considered a 1st round pick. If you stay put at QB, that would be around where the Penn St LB and the LSU WR and 2 Bama WRs start to come off the board. That Florida TE is impressive, but do you really want to spend a top 10 on a TE? Maybe you can trade back with someone who wants Lance, Parsons or 1 of those WRs.

The Penn State LB is a MLB right? That or the #3 QB makes sense.

Assuming Lawrence, Field, and Sewell go 1/2/3 in some order, we are guaranteed Lance, Pitts, or Parsons. Lance's draft stock will all be decided in his pro day and combine measurables. Personally, I go Micah Parsons if I'm the Panthers. Keep stacking that defense as much as possible. People forget that Rhule signed an 8 year deal. This was never going to be turned around in one day.

If Lance knocks the doors down this offseason then take him instead. I'm cool with a generational talent at TE but you better be damn sure Lance is a bust if that's the move.

Both Parsons and Lance opted out, so the offseason is huge for them.

I feel pretty confident that we could get a veteran pass-catching TE for a decent price if that's a priority. Most likely we resign Manhertz and roll with Ian Thomas for his contract year and draft a TE later. TE3 Colin Thompson is a Temple guy, so he may not go anywhere either.

Just given where we are in the building process QB seems to be the clear pick in R1, particularly if it’s a project guy who hasn’t been playing this year like Lance. Then go more BPA defense the rest of the way.

How about taking Parsons in the 1st and then a QB who could drop to the second like Trask or Jones?

Or pick Lance or the BYU guy in the 1st and then pick Chazz Surratt in the 2nd?

Any chance Dallas lets Dak walk after the injury? I have always been a Dak hater (unjustified hype, IMO) but I saw enough this year to become a believer.

A project QB at #6 or 7 in round 1? I'm not seeing it. I'd like to see the Panthers pursue the other pieces needed first and focus on OL or LB.

My bad, 6th. To me, 1-3 are easy. NYJ and Jax need QBs, and Cincy's OL sucks, so yeah, Lawrence, Fields and Sewell in that order. And none of those 3 teams are in danger of winning enough games to slip in the order. But there could be a lot of change between 4-13 or so. As it is currently, you're behind Dal and LAC, neither of whom need a QB. Dal is probably a lock to take Parsons if they stay there, given how bad their D is. Another team could hop you to take Lance, but the next possible QB interested teams are maybe Det and Chi, who are currently in the teens. That would be a lot of draft capital to give up. So my guess is you're the team that needs to make referendum on Lance. I like the hilite tape I've seen, but it's not like he's played against power 5 opponents.

Jerruh wants to win before he dies. If nothing can be worked out with Dak, however, I'd think he'd rather swing something with Det for Stafford who has a few years left.

Buttermaker, I wouldn't necessarily call Lance a project. He ain't a sure thing like Lawrence or Burrow, but he's more in that Tua/Herbert range. I guess the thought is, if you're a team on the rise, you're not going to be drafting in an area where you can take a great QB in the future. So if you get the chance at a Lance this year, you run with it. Otherwise, 2 years from now, you're wondering what to do with Bridgewater and if you're capable of making a deep playoff run with him.

Project was probably the wrong word for Lance, but given how much he’s been away from football he doesn’t seem like a day one starter with Teddy B still under contract. But I like the talent I’ve seen on highlights. You have to take swings at QB high in the draft if you can imo

I like the way you're thinking. I have no idea what that would look like. Big time players forcing their way out isn't nearly as common in the NFL as the NBA, especially at QB. This would take a massive trade. A 25 year old QB who looks like a future HOF. I don't remember the last time a player as good as Watson was trade at this point in his career.

I'm thinking 2021 1st, 2021 3rd, 2022 1st, Teddy B (if they want him), and two or three more picks.

If that’s what it would take, I’ll pass. I’d rather keep building the defense. Another draft like the last one, and we’ll have one of the top defenses in the league.

We still thinking that Smokin’ Joe Brady is a sure thing head coach prospect next season.... I don’t

Maybe Lawrence doesn't want to be a Jet (a la Eli Manning), and he forces a series of trades (like Giants-Chargers-Saints for Eli). We could be part of that.

I’m hearing Watson, Lawrence, and Fields all want to go back to the Atlanta area where they grew up.

Pretty sure that last map I saw of the “Atlanta Metro Area” included Mecklenburg County
