Official Election Month Thread: COUP falls short, nothing to see here

Raffensperger holding a presser today at 3. Announcing criminal investigation into Trump's actions hopefully?

makes you wonder what other calls he's had with Secretaries of State since he would need more than GA to win

He's going to announce that if your first or last name starts with a capital letter and live in Fulton or DeKalb Counties, your vote won't count.

Couple fun things here. First is that it's pretty common for people to complain when folks quit in protest of bad leadership in Government. But imagine if Trump had actual authority over Raffensperger to compel him to do these things. You can't "fight from the inside" in that kind of situation, and while not at this scale shit like this happens all the time.

Second, I really enjoyed the logic circle in that call even though it was mucked up by Trump's incoherence. Basically it was 1) We won, so if we didn't win someone broke the law. 2)You and your lawyer are at personal risk because of that. 3) You can't say you disagree or didn't know that laws were broken because I'm the President and I just made you aware of it.

I mean, given the current atmosphere it's a frighteningly valid piece of logic. It's probably only going to break because of the timing - up until now even if you got caught legally you got pardoned, and if you didn't you got fired.

I read an article that claimed that Trump wanted to overturn the GA results because even if it didn't lead to a domino effect in other close states, at least Biden wouldn't get the same number of electoral votes that he did in 2016 (306, although I think that Trump ended up with 304.) Given Trump's ego and endless pettiness, it's plausible.

Couple with the fact that Georgia is the state that has gone the longest without voting Blue, 1992 for Clinton. Someone probably told him how deeply red it is and how no republican has lost in 28 years and since he lost he can't handle it, so its cheating, fraud etc... I actually won by 500,000 votes. If Georgia had voted for him he would have moved on to the next target of Arizona.

this dude in the press conference is great. just dismantling Trump's bullshit one line at a time.

About the only thing he didn't say was "Yo Mama".

I wonder how much shit Trump is breaking in the WH. On the GA thread, I said this guy is making the GA Tech v. Cumberland 222-0 football game look a nail biter as compared to GA v. Trump.

"[sigh]...it's such a long list."
"I don't even know what that is. It's not a real thing."
"The machines do not have MODEMS. It's very hard to hack things that don't have MODEMS."

Besides Sterling, you've gotta love the guy signing. He really gets into it and is fun to watch.

Yes. Things are going quite well for them. They will make big gains in 2022 and will win the White House in 2024.

Right. 2020 was a wildly successful election for the Republican Party. Which is why the fellating of trump is continuing. You get credit for supporting him with none of the downsides.

It’s honestly worked out really well for the Republican Party.

They've locked in a far right Supreme Court for decades, held most state houses, and will likely keep the Senate. They'll gerrymander, come up with more ways to suppress votes, and continue to peddle conspiracy theories to win in 2022. Sure they have to debase themselves in ways they may never have expected, and the defensiveness of the statements some have put out show there's some level of embarrassment, but it's a small price to pay to hold on to power.
