man I have a real craving for Shophouse, the Asian restaurant Chipotle was piloting in DC but ultimately decided not to expand. that shit was delicious. pork meatballs in a curry sauce with some charred green beans, pickled veg and papaya salad. any DC Deacs eat there?

Pretty sure they all closed. At least the one by my office in Chinatown closed a few years ago and was replaced by an inferior version of the same concept (which I think has also now closed). But those pork meatballs were legit. When it was around it was definitely one of my go-to spots.

yeah I went to the one in Dupont prob once a week (think it was the original). I remember they expanded I think to LA and NYC but Chipotle pulled the plug on nationwide and shut them all down.

our company shut down my office permanently and we're full-time remote, even beyond Covid

I love it

only thing that will change in the future is that I'll travel -- unclear when I may start doing that, we haven't talked about it much lately

An accomplishment you should no doubt be extremely proud of, mako. Amongst the taller midgets, as it were.

Unrelated - I hear January is generally thought of as a good time for self-reflection and re-evaluating one's life priorities.

Food for thought.

Dude, I'm gonna be so jacked by April I'm gonna carry you, you wife, and three other randos over my shoulder in the Hero Carry.

You can Hero Carry me the whole 12-ish miles, if you'd like.

Wife signed us up for "Street Parking" in December, so I've actually be working out 5x/week for the last 3 weeks. It is amazing how much better I feel during the day.

I'm not worried about you. Didn't you just hurt your ribcage getting out of bed the other day?

Also, how is The Stand on CBS All-Access? I want to watch it, but I haven't heard great reviews.

Hurting my old man feelings as well as my body. I feel you on the feeling better during the day when you work out early. I've had a ton more energy as well.

And I really dig The Stand, but I'm an unapologetic King fanboy, so I may not be the best person to ask. I really like the take on it though, especially the Larry Underwood character. Whoopi isn't nearly as distracting as I feared she would be either.

Speaking of The Stand, holy shit I'd forgotten how many n-bombs there are in the first hundred pages of that book until this reread. Like a fucking Tarrantino movie.

I go into the office almost every Sunday to take advantage of quiet time and fast internet. I also sign any documents that need a wet signature and review any mail.

We have had a huge surge in audit activity so I’m doing a lot of document review and production and through our VPN it sucks.

I went into the office yesterday but have probably been in office on a work day less than 10 times since March.

We have not eaten at any restaurants but do get takeout and delivery. I’ll run into the grocery for higher end things like fish and meat so they don’t give us expired shit.

Since the pandemic started until 1/08, Orange Theory has posted daily at home workouts on their youtube. I've enjoyed the ones I have done.

How long do y'all wait on zoom for the other party to join? I just had a meeting where the other person was 20 min late. Was close to leaving but just opened some other work to do while I waited.

Generally I would do so but figured I’d keep it up as I was doing work on the computer already.

When I worked in Chinatown, there was a place called Beef on 6th and H, which did great roastbeef sammy's. I am pretty sure they closed like within a year. I am amazed by the amount of Chinatown lunch places that can't stay open. Pretty soon that whole city is going to be Sweetgreens and Corner Bakeries.

Still go get pizza and knots at Wiseguys, its better than Burke Street.

This morning on the way to school I learned that my lily white daughter apparently thinks I am Hispanic just like her best friend Veronica.

Finished Skeleton Crew last night. Favorite stories were Mrs Todd's Shortcut, Survivor Type, Uncle Otto's Truck, and The Reach. Had already read The Mist as a standalone novella.

I think my fav was actually The Reach, the last story in the book. I know he's known as a horror writer but really some of his best work is just straightforward fiction. On to The Tommyknockers.

Oh boy. That's not a good book, bro. Have fun there. It's King's least favorite work.

I've been reading a bit more, but it feels so indulgent. Just finished Hillbilly Elegy. That book cut me deep.

knight, man, you gotta take it easy on yourself

it's okay to read

and it's okay to let your kids learn how to read too
