We’ve got a cheap one that we run about once a week. It’s not bad. It is loud and it will be better once everyone is out of the house so it cun run while we’re gone.

Out roomba is great with a dog that sheds. We don’t expect it to do the whole house on a schedule, but will set it up to do a room with the electronic walls. We have a lower tier model (not the cheapest). We’ve had it for 8-10 years and have to replace the battery once, but it’s great to keep our main living spaces clear.

41:40 for me today. Got really hung up in the NE when I insisted on WORMHOLES instead of STARGATES. As always once I deleted the wrong word, it all came together quickly. Streak now at 144 days.

this concept sounds absolutely dreadful. the process of moving once sucks as is, can't imagine doing it three more times. although I guess if they were taking furniture with them or not, and how much stuff they were taking in total could change it. are they packing as if it is a three month vacation? or fully picking up everything they own & moving?

It was more akin to packing for a vacation. They did a lot of planning before leaving their home in DC. Still, there had to be lots of logistics worked out throughout the year. His attempts to rent and drive a car in New Zealand were hilarious. New Zealand was (by far?) their favorite of the four places. New Zealand, Costa Rica, Hays (KS), and Netherlands. I am not sure he said it explicitly, but it certainly seemed like the Netherlands was their least favorite.

Ours has trouble charging, you’ve gotta shove something underneath it and it has to catch the charger at just the right angle for it to charge. But otherwise works great. Nice to do before swiffering

Yeah. That’s where ours is right now. We are going to move it to a covered area of the patio and run it on occasion.

I thought The Langoliers was excellent and the rest of Four Past Midnight was pretty meh, mako. Even Sun Dog, I thought was a little thin.

What did you think about Pop Merrill?

Great character

Taking a break and reading Deacon King Kong

Anybody drive or own a Kia? Any thoughts?

I’ve been waiting for the Ford Escape plug-in hybrid vehicle, but there are no signs that it will be released soon - was supposed to hit the market last June but they delayed - so I’m considering the Kia Niro plug in hybrid.

I have an 08 Kia Sportage I bought used about eight years ago. Solid light SVU, no real issues. Very easy to drive and maintain.

In other news were about to terminate a contract for a new home. Due diligence period ends tomorrow at 5 pm and the owners won’t extend, and want us to trust them to negotiate the nearly $20K in repairs that’s needed after the inspection. Basically every window in the house has to be replaced, the toilets are loose and leaky and should be replaced, and the deck needs a large board replaced. We also estimate that we’ll need to spend another $50K+ in the house to “modernize” the kitchen, bathrooms, and replace the floors. It’s a great neighborhood and it’s exterior is gorgeous, but I can’t fathom spending another $75K and living uncomfortably for the next year. The roof also only has maybe five years left before it needs replacing.

Instead we went looking today with our realtor could sense our cold feet and found a place that costs $25K more but is ready to move in today. It has modern, open kitchen and a baller master bathroom and walk in closet. It has more bathrooms and a bigger basement. So we put in a bid at offering price and it was accepted. Location isn’t as great, as it’s a smaller neighborhood, but the surrounding houses are pricy. My in-laws also live in the neighborhood, which is great since my wife’s retired mother is our nanny and had volunteered to be so moving forward. So fucking pumped to make this switch.

My wife got a 2013 Sorento new. It has been great. Much better than the more expensive car it replaced. I got a 2013 Optima new. Also no issues. They each have around 135,000 miles on them.

Also got a Telluride new in 2019. Good impression thus far.

Good call to just move on. It's a seller's market and there is no doubt they will find a buyer to eat most of those repair costs.

Thanks for the Kia input. Went and did a test drive yesterday. It was OK, I didn't love it.

Anybody watch For All Mankind? Watched episode 5 last night and couldn’t get over how absolutely terrifying what they did was.

Out of all the inane and nonsensical conspiracy theories, the faking of the moon landing seems the most plausible to me.
